problem #5

F-150 Platinum 3.5L V6 Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 101,000 miles

TRANSMISSION FAILURE

At 5000 miles - recall for transmission - was at dealer for 2 months. At 95,000 miles - gears clunking upshift 3rd-4th, 4th-5th, and downshift 10th-9th. At 100,000 miles - getting stuck between gears. Unsafe. Took to Ford dealership - Code P07F7. New transmission needed. $10k.

This is a very common problem w/this 10spd V6. Dealer service manager said "These things just go on these trucks, sometimes 20,000, sometimes 100,000 miles."

...wait...20,000 miles!?! Some need new trans at 20k!?! Spent a little time reading about it, and yes. Can occur any time, but nearly always before 100k. Worse...several posters have said the problem can return on the NEW transmission. I've confirmed this with friends, too. My sample size is small, but of 2 friends that have 10-speed F150s from this era, both have had new transmissions put in...one at 75k, one at 65k. The one at 65k is already having problems at 83k.

So - new transmission needed at $10k? Nope. I'll trade it for whatever I can get. And replace it with a Tundra.

F-150 Lariat 2.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

Transmission clunking/delay when auto shifting from lower to higher gear. First Ford shop said they couldn't find the problem, said it could be associated with adaptive learning system which they reset. Problem disappeared for a few months before reappearing.

Second Ford shop said they didn't know cause and would have to drop the transmission for inspection at a cost of $600 - then and only then could they isolate problem, but a transmission replacement was likely. Note: when I first took truck to service shop it was still on warranty but by second visit it was not.

F-150 Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 22,000 miles

Ford seems to have had this problem with transmissions for sometime. This is my third Ford F150 and have never had such an issue. I have also never been so disappointed in the service at the dealership or that for such an expensive truck they could care less about fixing the problem.
