Loss of Acceleration in 2022 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid I am writing to report a safety issue with my 2022 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid, which has been experiencing acceleration lag and loss of power during regular driving conditions. Component/System that Failed: The powertrain system, specifically related to the integration between the electric motor and gasoline engine, appears to be malfunctioning. This issue primarily affects the vehicle's ability to accelerate after a stop or during turns. Safety Risk: The loss of acceleration poses a significant safety risk to both myself and others on the road. The delay in throttle response has caused the truck to remain in a low gear for several seconds, even with the accelerator fully pressed. This issue has occurred while merging onto highways, when moving through intersections, where quick acceleration is necessary to avoid collisions and a simply stop signs taking a turn where I'm not able to accelerate after. The delay increases the likelihood of rear-end collisions and creates dangerous situations, especially in heavy traffic. The problem has been reproduced by a dealer and many other owners have reported the same issue. I'm hoping that Ford has releases Powertrain Control Module (PCM) update aimed at addressing this, but the issue persists for many, including myself after recent PCM updates. The vehicle has been formally inspected by my local Ford dealership. They will be applying a PCM update on 10/10/2024. There were no warning lamps or error messages that appeared before or during the incidents. The problem occurs unexpectedly, usually when I press the accelerator, particularly in Eco or Normal driving modes. The issue has been less frequent in Sport and Tow/Haul modes, but this results in increased fuel consumption, which negates the advantages of the hybrid system.

When traveling at low speeds, 10-15 mph, and coasting (no accelerator input) then pressing the accelerator there is no response. The engine will not rev up and the truck will not accelerate for a good 6-8 seconds. It happens usually in parking lots or when making low speed turns onto street intersections or pulling out of driveways. This is dangerous, as pulling in front of traffic then having no acceleration for several seconds could cause a rear-ending accident. It also happens often when going over steep small speed bumps in the parking garage at my office. It's very annoying and in some situations very dangerous. This has been happening since I bought the truck in January 2023. It is now Sept 2024.

Since I have purchased the 2022 Ford F-150 I have had several incidents where the cruise control has set itself. A couple incidents have resulted in me slamming on the brakes to avoid collision. I have taken it to the dealer a few times and they have replaced everything that has to do with the cruise control and it still sets itself from time to time but it's sporadic. The dash lights/instrument cluster has went completely out 2-3 time and came back on. When it does come back on the drive mode disabled light is on and I can't change the drive modes. The entertainment/map screen has froze up several time. The map will freeze and I can't change the music or do anything on the screen.

The cruise control can be easily and accidentally activated and can be activated at any speed. Once activated, it has a minimum established speed of 15mph. If traveling at low parking lot speeds of under 5mph, this will result in a sudden surge as the truck attempts to hit the minimum 15mph speed. The sudden surge is a surprise to many and can be dangerous as it typically occurs in low speed areas such as parking lots and can be accidentally activated during low speed maneuvers. Recommend the manufacture adjust the settings so that either cruise control can not be activated when below the established minimum speed setting of 15mph. Additionally, please refer to pages 4-5 of the forums for additional users complaining about the same: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle in a driveway, it failed to turn over and start. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the start-stop button again, but it failed to start. After another attempt, the vehicle restarted, inadvertently accelerated, and crashed into a wooden fence. There were no reported injuries. There was no air bag deployment, fire, or police report filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. The contact called the local dealer, who referred him to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000. The VIN was not available.

Runaway Throttle at least 8 times now: 1. Driving in adaptive cruise control when deactivated by manual braking (to turn into a parking lot, which is a more common scenario for a brake based shutoff) 2. Parked nose first and shut off the truck 3. Start truck and reverse out of parking space 4. Shift to drive, apply throttle gently and truck continues to accelerate when throttle released requiring a PANICKED brake application

The speedometer does not report the correct speed the truck is going It is off and the faster you go the more it is off. The dealership service manager tried to get it fixed twice and Ford engineering said that-??s normal.

My truck accelerated on its own, repeatedly, while highway driving. Had to drive with brakes on until I was able to pull over. Turned off truck, waited a few minutes, turned back on and without having my foot anywhere near the accelerator, the truck accelerated on its own, as if someone was gunning the engine - while still in park. Turned off again. NOTHING was near my accelerator to cause this - I managed to get to the dealership. They said it was my floor mats that caused the problem. They found nothing mechanical. I assured them the mat was not the cause - this truck nearly killed me and I know something is wrong with it. The acceleration was constant, the engine noise loud as if gunning - cruise control was not on. The truck has been driven several times by my husband and nothing has happened, but I will never drive it as it scared the life out of me. This is my 4th F-150 - I know the truck and know how to drive it. This is not normal obviously, and it isn-??t the mat. I used the exact same mats in my previous truck for almost 5 years. Then transferred them - it-??s NOT the problem ! The truck is dangerous and something is wrong.

The contact owns a 2022 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at slow speeds and making a left turn, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. The vehicle was restarted and worked as designed. The navigation system screen had frozen. While opening the sunroof, the deflector detached. While driving, the brakes was applied without driver input. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the deflector needed to be replaced. The other failures were unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 13,696.

When using one pedal drive modes going down an incline as a slow rate of speed say 2 - 3 mph. If you release your foot from the pedal the truck will come to a spot, then reverse 3 - 6" on that incline. This has cause on more then one occasion almost back into a vehicle that was behind me.

Unintended acceleration / rolling may occur when vehicle is remote started through Fordpass mobile application. The 1 pedal-drive vehicle setting is NOT preserved when using remote start. Vehicle may roll down hill upon entry. Default driver profile has 1 pedal drive OFF while all device profiles linked to Fordpass and Phone-as-a-Key have 1 pedal drive ON. Fordpass mobile app remote start needs to preserve 1 pedal drive setting due to potential unintended acceleration when on flat surfaces or unintended reverse acceleration rolling down hills.

On May 25, 2023 I was stopped at a red light with one car in front of me. My foot was not on brake because i use the one peddle feature. All of the sudden, my car accelerated and ran into the car in front of me. In the 2 seconds before hitting car, I saw my collision assistant light go on but there was no braking at all. I've been driving for almost 40 years and nothing like this has ever happened. Clearly, something internally with the sensors or computer system malfunctioned. Fortunately, nobody was injured but I can't imagine if a pedestrian was in front of me. Also, the collision braking malfunctioned and brakes didn't go on either. I have not had anything problems with the truck in the 6 months I've been driving vehicle. The only error message I've been seeing before this accident is something about an Air Damn malfunction. I recently brought it into dealership and they said they fixed it but it was still coming on after leaving the dealership. Not sure exactly what this Air Damn is and if it could be related. I immediately called Ford about this and they said to contact NHTSA. I also quickly went to dealership where I purchased vehicle but they didn't seem to know what to do. My understanding, according to Ford, is to start the process with NHTSA. Let me know if you have any additional questions and what the next step is. I'm very concerned to drive vehicle when it comes back from getting all the damage fixed.
