Ford F 250 safety issue, constantly have to make certain the truck doesn't lurch forward on release. The consumer is having problems with the clutch on the six speed manual and the emergency brake. The clutch releases only 1 to 1 1/2 inches off the floor. The consumer was told that the original had a rubber hose part that allowed expansion when the hydraulic clutch fluid was compressed. The vehicle was found that the problem with the clutch fork was bending. The consumer stated that it is difficult to shift gears causing a pause that could result in someone else rear ending him. The vehicle emergency brake was replaced due to recall notice however the consumer still has to leave it in gear on even theslightest grade because the emergency brake does not hold the truck in place. Ford Motor Company agreed to replace the parking brake front cable and the pedal control assembly. The A/C blew hot air.

Consumer states that the bushings in clutch kept breaking off. When this happened the clutch pedal went all the way to the floor, and consumer could not stop the vehicle. The piece that broke off was made of plastic, and did not do the job. This happened 3 times. The first time at 80,000 miles. Currently, it happened again and there was no recall on it.

F-250 Diesel

  • Manual transmission
  • miles
Clutch slave cylinder failed without warning. The clutch pedal went about 1/2 way before engaging. Difficult to engage clutch and shift transmission. I was towing a trailer at the time of failure. When I contacted the Ford dealer to schedule repair he said not to drive the vehicle very far because complete failure would probably occur. I was also told that Ford is very aware of this defect and has redesigned this part due to many failures. Even though an accident did not occur, I think a safety recall is needed since these vehicles are designed to haul or carry heavy loads and this type of failure could make it difficult to engage the clutch when trying to stop the vehicle, which could result in a catastrophic accident. The cost for repair was $305.26

The tires have blown while driving on highways. The clutch problem is a recurring one. 3 to 4 times a day the clutch pedal stays at the bottom of the travel distance or only comes half-way back up. The transmission also does not shift smoothly. (tiresize: Lt23585R16)( dot number: Tire size: Lt23585R16 )

F-250 4WD Diesel

  • Manual transmission
  • miles
While making a stop by depressing the clutch, clutch did not disengage transmission, and vehicle stalled. Dealer has been contacted. Mechanic said that Pilot bearing on Pilot shaft is the weak link in the transmission. Pilot bearing failed, caused excessive wear on the Pilot shaft which caused the clutch plate to break, which prevents the clutch from disengaging. Part replaced by dealer.
