F-250 XLT 6.0L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,000 miles

The problem is a steering wobble at highway speeds when encountering uneven road conditions (bump). The vehicle loses control and the steering wheel wobbles for a few seconds. This problem has been reported on Auto Beef and investigated and Ford contends it is a tire pressure problem or suspension change. This is not true and Ford has acknowledged the problem with a TSB 7-10-10 which recommends replacing the steering damper and mount with a 2008 damper and mount. My vehicle has done this since new. I have the tires checked regularly and when I replaced the tires at Discount Tire they have been on a scheduled maintenance. My suspension has not been modified. The problem is quite common and severe and Ford acknowledges it but has not recalled it. It is severe enough to be concerned about it causing an accident. Please investigate beyond Ford's form letter fix to the problem.

Update from Oct 3, 2010: I had a local Ford dealer test drive the vehicle to verify the problem. They did a check of the suspension, alignment, tire pressure and assorted checks on the front end and found no problems. I then had them perform the TSB 7-10-10 which essentially changes the steering damper and bracket replacing it with one from the 2008 model year as prescribed in the TSB. This solved the problem and was also verified by the dealer. The suspension and steering performs like a new vehicle and have had no recurrence of the "death wobble" as it is called.

My F250 when you are on the highway and hit a bump it felt like the wheels will fly off of the vehicle. I have taken the truck back to Ford and every time they find something wrong. Once it was the left side ball joints, then the steering arm, then the brake pedal. I feel that Ford is aware of the problem but know how much it would cost to fix the problem and hope that I go away. I have owned a Chevy suburban since 1994 and haven"t had ant problems with it. My truck is back at ford for the 11th time and now ford sent out a service tech because I filed the lemon law on the vehicle. They are saying it is the brake pedal?????????? I suggest you all do what I am doing and file the lemon law. Go on line to lemon law and follow the instructions. You will get someone from ford to get back to you.
