This was one of my heavier work trucks and the driver noticed the slack in the steering and drove it to the job anyway? Asked him to move it and the steering was locked up even while moving forward or backward? I looked at the shaft and it looked good so I jerked the shaft left and right trying to get the steering to move to where there wrecker that showed up needed and something gave up? You could spin the steering wheel left/right for as long as you wanted? Wrecker shows up and 4- hours later we get it loaded and 2 miles to a garage. The front end mechanic within 20 min. said it was the steering box. We can't afford for this truck to be down but we are grateful that the problem happened where it did instead of on the road at 55-60 mph!

I HAVE TALKED TO FORD TILL I AM BLUE IN THE FACE, STILL GETTING THE RUNAROUND!!! TIRE PREASURE IS THERE ANSWER, SO THEY MAKE SURE THE TIRE PREASURE IS RIGHT, STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM , STILL SAY TIRE PRESSURE!!! THE PROBLEM IS THE RACK AND PINION STEERING BOX, THEY KNOW THAT THATS THE PROBLEM, BUT WON'T ADMIT IT, SO I HAVE TO SHELL OUT ALMOST 2,000.00 TO FIX IT WHEN IT SHOULD BE A RECALL, THERE ARE OVER A COUPLE OF THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE STEERING SHACKING AND NOT BEING ABLE TO CONTROL THE WHEEL, DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD, BUT FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

2008 F250 Steering wheel locks up when getting off highway and applying brakes at same time as turning. I have contacted Ford at 90,000 miles and they showed no care at all. Took to shop they replaced gear box with Ford gear box and then had to replace again a couple weeks after the first one was replaced. Sent son to pick up ATV on way home on 12-28-15 he calls scared and stated steering wheel locked up getting off exit when applying brakes. Going into shop Thursday the 7th of January 2016. I understand its an older vehicle but its very well taken care of and for has had this issue sense the vehicle was manufactured and they are aware of it. Last ford I will own.
