While driving on the highway and you hit a bump the trucks starts shaking violently. I read its called death wobble. It has done it multiples times, and it is hard to control. I had Ford perform the tsb for this and it did not help.

During "normal" travel when truck hits bump/road joint/bridge joint vehicle begins to shake uncontrollably. I found out this is called the "death wobble " happens at speeds over approximately 30 to 70mph. Only way to stop this is to just let vehicle slow to stop which is very hazardous especially if you are on a highway or interstate

While driving in Chicago jan17, 2020, I lost all steering control while driving 60 mph on interstate highway 294. Had to break hard to avoid plowing into an 18wheeler. 2017 F250 death wobble steering stabilizer not covered under warranty at 35,000 miles 38 months old truck.

  • 5 miles
Driving about 60 miles per hour on a state maintained highway I hit a small depression in the road and the front end of the truck and the steering column started to shake violently to the point I had very little control of the vehicle. I was able to pull over and stop. I understand there is a class action lawsuit against Ford describing the death wobble effect. That description is exactly what I experienced.

This is the second Ford F250 I've had in less than a month that has a severe problem with the suspension/steering.driving above 45-50mph and you drive over uneven road surface, the steering wheel will start to shake side to side and almost cause lose of control. I had this happen twice on two separate trucks, both 2017 F250's.it is very unsafe to drive especially at highway speeds. Ford knows there is a problem, but doesn't have the correct parts to fix it. Dealer is no help.the truck only has 21K miles.

Horrible death wobble. Have taken it into the dealer twice now. They cannot fix it. If you research it on the internet is a big design flaw because there is not enough caster adjustment. This is going to kill someone if it has not already happened. Please have them fix this. I do have a video

F-250

  • 17,000 miles
Truck started experiencing severe front end oscillations at 70 mph when one tire passes over an expansion joint. Or other seemingly insignificant bumps. This first happened when I had about 17K miles on the truck. Took it to the Ford dealer on 12/19/2017 and got it back on 1/12/2018. Ford dealer could not identify any specific cause for the wobble. Problem is repeatable on a specific bridge in fond du lac, wi. I took the Ford service manager and technician on a ride to witness it on 3/16/18 when it occurred 3 times on the bridge in one day. I have also recorded the event on video and shared it with Ford. I would attach it to this complaint but it exceeds the 5M size limit. After repairs the truck was ok until 2/17/2019 when I took it back to the dealer for the wobble. Parts were ordered and installed on 3/1/2019 when truck had 28K miles on it. The truck was returned to the dealer on 4/10/2019 when the problem returned with 29K miles on it. The truck drove without incident until 2/3/2020 when the wobble reappeared with 35.3K miles on it. It is scheduled for service on 2/10/2020. This is a known defect at Ford and the truck should be recalled. It is a safety hazard. I've been fortunate that this "death wobble" hasn't yet occurred while towing my 5th wheel rv (for which I purchased the truck).

2017 Ford F-250 with 23,953 miles all original equipment. Vehicle was in motion at 60 mph on the freeway, transitioned off a bridge (expansion joint.) violent shaking of front end resulting in violent shaking of steering wheel and entire truck. Known as 'death wobble.' Applied breaks and once slowed down to 40 mph the vehicle returns to normal operation. Very dangerous situation. This is the third time in the las couple of weeks and it is getting worse. Took truck to asheville Ford before this last time and they stated nothing wrong and they could not reproduce.

Driving in forward motion above 50 miles per hour, the vehicle will experience an uncontrollable wobble when hitting any size bump in the road. This is not an intermittent event. This occurs with vehicle empty or under tow (loaded). The only way to correct it is to slow down below 40 mph. I have researched this phenomenon online and have found hundreds of customers experiencing the same issue. Most have reported Ford is aware of the problem. It has also been discussed in the forum that Ford used to cover the repair, but is no longer covering under warranty. My truck only has 20000 miles on it, I only use it for everyday driving and towing a camper under normal conditions. Tires are in good condition and inflated properly. The condition presents on any type road at speeds above 50 mph. I have also noted a creaking/ clunking sound during slow speed tight turns in the parking lot.

Experience what is called the "death wobble", severe steering oscillation. Traveling at highway speed 60 mph or better hit a bump in the road. Oscillation started, to regain positive control of vehicle I had to reduce speed to under 35 miles an hour. In traffic at 60 mph is extremely dangerous if there is no shoulder or if you are in the fast lane. Luckily each time this occurs I have been in a rural area. If I were on the DC beltway and this occurred, without a doubt this would cause a multiple vehicle event with injuries..

Steering wheel started shaking violently out of nowhere while driving on the interstate.I was traveling approximately 70 mph when out of the blue the vehicle/steering wheel violently started shaking and I started losing control of the vehicle. I had to hold on to the steering wheel as tight as I could and brake and it finally came under control. I literally thought I was going to die, that was the scariest moment of my life!! I will not drive this vehicle on the interstate again, nor will I let my children ride in this vehicle again. This is the 4th time this has happened and it is a very serious problem with this truck and it is very frightening.

F-250

  • 14,000 miles
At approximately 60-70 mph, the vehicle may experience a very violent shaking in the steering wheel, jerking back and forth left to right a few inches. This is not caused by any driver input. It has only occurred while going straight. Any small bumps(railroads tracks, pothole, etc) may start or exacerbate the shaking, but hitting anything small objects such as afore mentioned does not guarantee the shaking will or will not occur. Usually the shaking of the steering wheel will recede when the brakes are applied and speed is reduced.

Very scary death wobble.at speeds from 45 to 65 mph I have taken the truck to Ford with no help. The first time they said the tires were bad. Which was very strange because they only had about 20,000 miles on them. So I replaced them at the dealer with factory originals. No fix no help from Ford

The front end will start shaking violently leading to a potential for the vehicle to go out of control unless you immediately slow down to about 5 mph in the middle of the road. This has happened to me when I hit an improperly filled pot hole on airport road in mobile, al. This also happened to me on highway 612 in lucedale, ms when I traveled from a paved road to a concrete bridge over the escatapa river. Per the internet, there are many other problems of the same nature and so far Ford is refusing to do anything, even though this could lead to a serious or fatal accident.

  • 30,000 miles
While driving on the highway at around 70+ mph, the vehicle hit a highway transition bump. The steering wheel jerks one direction and immediately begins to oscillate left and right. The entire cabin of the truck simultaneously begins to shudder violently. This oscillation/shuddering continues until the truck is slowed down to approximately 30 mph. This has occurred to my vehicle three distinct times during two years of ownership. This is colloquially known as the "death wobble" on the internet. It is a known issue with this generation of Ford super duties. The problem was reported to the dealership, who stated this is a known issue. Dealer attempted a remedy by replacing a drag link. Steering is still "wobbly" to this day.
