Experienced catastrophic steering wheel oscillation (death wobble) at 70mph in heavy freeway traffic after going over expansion joint on bridge overpass. Complete loss of control endangering my family in this truck. Slammed on the brakes to regain control causing semi trucks and all other traffic around me to take evasive action !

The failure mileage was 36,000.

At highway speeds the vehicle will go into a "death wobble" when going over bumpy roads. The vehicle shakes violently and I am forced to slow down to about 25mph in order to regain control of the truck. I took the truck to my local Ford dealer when it first happened and they replaced parts which temporarily fixed the problem. The first incident occurred on 12-22-18 and was fixed on 01-04-19 by replacing the drag link and damper assembly. Today, 03-31-19, the truck did another death wobble at 70 mph.

Death wobble as the dealer calls it has been a reocurring problem on my 2017 Ford F-250. I have taken it to the dealer and asked them to address the death wobble 3 times in the last 15,000 miles. I am still experiencing the death wobble on a regular, but unexpected, basis. I hope Ford will address the issue but I am not pleased with their "solutions" to this problem. It is, without a doubt, a safety issue. The death wobble is violent and out of control.

F-250

  • 45,000 miles
Death wobble continues to plague my 2017 Ford F-250 even after the dealership replaced steering components that were showing wear. It does not feel safe and I fear hitting any kind of bump in the road. Even the slightest bump like a joint in the road will cause an unexpected violent shaking until I slow down to 30-40 mph. Safety is at risk when the death wobble is set off. I hope a recall would hold Ford to a higher standard when it comes to engineering steering and suspension parts. There is no reason to have to worry for your safety when driving a well-maintained vehicle in nearly new condition.

Death wobble continues to be a problem after dealership replaced worn parts. I have been fortunate enough that it has only occurred on an open road and not a busy highway. I have less than 50,000 miles and it has been a consistent and reoccurring problem for the last 20,000 miles. A recall should be pursued in order to make driving a 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty safe.

Front end wheels and suspension vibrates badly when you hit a small rough spot or expansion gap at highway speeds. Ford refers to this as steering oscillation, the internet refers to this as a "death wobble"

At 60 to 65 mph when you hit a bump in the road (going over bridges) the vehicle begins to shake uncontrollably / violently. In two cases I went off the road trying to slow the vehicle down. It will not stop unless you slow down to about 30 mph. In all cases it happened on the highway. Typically while trying to merge into traffic while entering from an on ramp. Most case the bridge joint starts the condition. This has happened 4 times in the last 2 months.

At about 60 mph on a highway and driving in a straight line I experienced a violent shaking in the front end which almost sent me off of the road. The only way to stop it was to slow down rather quickly and regain control. The more I research I found it is named "death wobble". it is a very random and dangerous situation and needs to be fixed. I now have a $46,000 truck that I have absolutely no trust in and will not let my wife drive. It has happened twice now, about a week in between and in different locations.

Hit a bump in the road and truck started shaking uncontrollably. Think what everybody is calling death wobble, was going around 70 and wouldn't come out of it till I got slowed down to 25. Happened 3 days in a row now, wife wont even drive it anymore. This will cause a deadly accident at some point.

Death wobble, the truck will randomly start shaking the steering wheel and front tires at around 60 mph with little to no warning. The truck has veered into other lanes of traffic while this shaking is occuring. The only way to stop the violent shake is to brake extremely hard down to about 30 mph rapidly. This has happened several times so far and is getting progressively worse each time.very dangerous situation. Usually highway driving at around 60-65 mph when this happens.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-250. After purchasing the vehicle brand new and driving 3,000 miles, it began experiencing the "death wobble". the vehicle was taken back to kerlin motor, Inc. (state road 15, silver lake, in 46982, 260-408-6052) three times. During each visit, the dealer contacted the manufacturer and changed the tie rod and performed a realignment. The dealer currently stated that the front shock absorbers could be the cause of the failure. The repairs were covered under warranty. The contact was concerned of a crash occurring due to the failure. The failure mileage was 6,000.

My truck has less than 16,000 miles. I have experienced 'death wobble' on six (6) separate occasions between January 16 and March 18, 2019. All instances occurred at speeds between 60 and 70 mph. Five of the instances occurred on rough roads, state highways and interstate highways. One instance occurred as I went over an expansion joint on an interstate highway bridge. The 'wobble' results in a very violent shaking of the entire front end of the truck and the steering wheel. It feels as if the driver loses complete control of any steering abilities until you are able to slow down to a speed of less than 50 mph. This truck was purchased nine months ago as a new vehicle from courtesy Ford in sauk city, wi. The dealer replace what they described as a stabilizer bar on its first attempt to fix the problem. It is now at courtesy Ford for a second time as they continue to try to fix this problem. I purchased this heavy duty truck in order to safely pull our fifth wheel camper and I no longer feel safe driving this truck.
