About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
I was driving my truck with no prior issues nor check engine light warnings, suddenly my truck began to lose speed, warning light came on instrument panel stating something to the effect of reduced power, I heard a loud noise (similar to the sound of a tire blown), as I looked out of the drivers side window I observed flames coming from the left front fender well. I was able to pull out of traffic coasting off into the median. Once in the median My wife and myself had to evacuate the truck immediately for our own safety. the engine compartment was rapidly becoming fully involved with fire. Attempted to extinguish fire with three fire extinguishers, called 911 and waited on fire department to arrive. My truck is now a total lose, I have read that your department has received similar issues that I have described.I felt it necessary to report my issue to hopefully help resolve this issue with Ford trucks.

My wife and children we driving when smoke appeared from the engine area, the engine warning lights came on and the engine lost power, the cab filled with smoke from the vents as she got the truck to the side of the road and used one fire extinguisher that we had in the truck others came and helped extinguish with water as well as police and fire dept. A police report is filed as well as a insurance claim and I have asked for a fire investigation, there is a serious problem with this vehicle. Note: This vehicle was just at 5 star ford for recall updates and no issues were noted.

During a daily regular drive, the steering wheel was wobbling and driver was unable to take control over the vehicle, the vehicle took a longer than expected time to be stopped and almost cause an accident. Vehicle was taken to dealer service, nothing was found.

Upper fuel filter developed a crack on top, spraying diesel fuel all over the interior of the engine compartment. Smelled fuel in the interior vents, then saw smoke trailing the truck in my rear view mirror. Pulled over at a mini-mart, opened the hood and saw the fuel spray fanning out from the top of the filter, along with smoke coming from the engine. Turned off the engine and the spray stopped.Smoke/vapor was reduced. No fire.

The top fuel filter developed a leak at the cap spraying fuel into the engine compartment essentially rendering the truck unusable. Truck has 25K miles on it. Manufacturer maintenance asks for fuel filter change at 30K miles. There is a recall on exact same issue on Ford trucks model 2020 and later but it doesn't cover model 2019 which has exact same fuel filter part. This could have been a potential fire hazard.
