The vehicle failed to restart. That contact stated an unknown message was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that metal shavings were circulating throughout the fuel system. The dealer informed the contact that the fuel system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided with the Manufacturer Recall Number: 24S78 -?" NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V957000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The contact performed a visual inspection of the engine compartment but did not find a failure. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the Cam-Driven High-Pressure Fuel Pump (CP4), observing that metal shavings had been circulated throughout the fuel system and the engine, resulting in damages to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, who confirmed the diagnostic result. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE24014 (Fuel System, Diesel, Fuel System, Other). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 175,000.

The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH and turning right, the vehicle aggressively veered to the right causing the vehicle to land in a ditch on the side of the roadway. The contact was able to successfully depress the brake pedal. There was no injury sustained. The contact was able to drive the vehicle out of the ditch and continued to drive at very slow speeds home. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was included in an NHTSA Campaign Number and the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle continued to display the death wobble while driving at speeds of 60 MPH or above. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle there was an abnormal diesel odor coming from the vehicle. The contact became aware of diesel fuel on the ground. While inspecting the engine while the vehicle was running, diesel fuel started to shoot up and out of the vehicle. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V013000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 7,000.
