F-250

  • 175,000 miles
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power, prompting the contact to pull over to the shoulder and turn off the vehicle, and the vehicle failed to restart. The contact performed a visual inspection of the engine compartment but did not find a failure. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the Cam-Driven High-Pressure Fuel Pump (CP4), observing that metal shavings had been circulated throughout the fuel system and the engine, resulting in damages to the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, who confirmed the diagnostic result. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE24014 (Fuel System, Diesel, Fuel System, Other). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 175,000.
