About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Rear fuel tank strap that holds the fuel tank in position failed. In 2003 Ford had a recall on this truck to install safety straps around the fuel tank in case there was a failure of the main straps. When the rear strap failed the safety strap failed and the only thing holding the tank in the truck was the fuel line. The tank was about 3/4 full if it had separated all together it would have been a disaster and probably a fire.

The contact owns a 1999 Ford F-350 pick up. The contact was driving 60 mph when the fuel straps detached from the fuel tank. The vehicle was towed to dealer where the dealer confirmed that both fuel tank straps were rusted and needed replacement. The manufacturer was contacted and they confirmed the VIN did not qualify for recall under NHTSA campaign id number: 99V311000 ( fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 121,000 and the current mileage was 124,000.
