In heavy rain the wipers and other electrical functions quit while driving - caused by a windshield leak onto the GEM module and fuse box. This windshield leak is a common problem that Ford knows about on 1997 thru 2000 Ford F150 pickups.

On June 26 2005 around 8:15 pm my 2000 Ford 150 had a under hood fire that was later determined to be caused by the cruise control switch. The truck was deemed totaled by progressive the next day. I called Ford and they said to call my insurance co.

While driving electrical system malfunctioned and caused the steering to fail and the vehicle to stall. The vehicles brakes also malfunctioned.

Alarm system sounds off every time it rains. The horn would activate when it rained. The heater blower came on although the key was not in the ignition. The radio came on by itself. As a result the battery would become drained. The consumer removed the horn and radio fuse.

Under hood/under dash vehicle fire. The vehicle was parked 45 minutes before the fire occurred. The consumer heard a loud bang and found flames coming from under the hood and under the dash. The vehicle was shut off and the key was in the off position at the time of the incident. The investigator suggested that the fire was caused by the heater.
