I had just driven my 88 yr old friend home in that passenger seat! (All my passengers must wear seatbelts) She got out of the passenger side on her own. I walked with her into her home, came out and got into the car. When turning the ignition on, open door light came on. I got out, closed passenger door myself, got back in and light was off. Drove down friend's street, stopped at stop sign, Pulled out making a left turn into proper left lane of four lane highway, as door flew completely open! Red warning light came on simultaneously and dinging sound came on. This incident scared the bejessus out of me.
I carefully made my way into right lane to pull off highway so no one would hit the open door. There could have easily been an accident. Had it happened only minutes earlier while my friend was still with me, she could have been seriously frightened. I called my daughter, who came and strapped the door shut to the post thru window openings of both front and rear door so I could safely drive the car to her home. I live 120 miles west of her and could not return home last evening. This morning I must try to find a place to have it repaired before I can travel home... I am quite angry that I was never warned this was going on with my Ford product. I had never had a problem with any of the latches before this incident.

Grandmother just became a widow in February having a hard time dealing with loss of my grandfather. I encouraged my grandmother to allow me to take her out to dinner at one of her favorite restaurants. I nestled her in the front, passenger side of car and closed the door. I get in the driver side and proceeded driving. When making a left turn her door swung wide open, there were no indicator lights on the dashboard of my car indicating that my car doors were not fastened. Next thing I knew was PANIC!!!
I was scared that my grandmother was going to fly right out the door even though she was harnessed in the safety belt. I stopped the car to find out how this happened and noticed that the handle was stuck in the pull-out position. I had a hard time putting it back in the rest position then find that the other piece placed next to the handle just fell on the ground. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary when either closing or opening the car door.
My grandmother is now very frightened and refuses to get back into my car; needless to say, both of us wasn't hungry anymore so that cancelled dinner. Then when calling my dealership, the company where I purchased my vehicle from, who then told me that I had to pay to get this problem fixed words cannot describe how angry I am about purchasing this vehicle.
This is my very first 'American' made car I have ever purchased and you can be know that I will be getting rid of it never to buy any more American made vehicles. I have never went through this kind of problem before with any of the foreign made vehicles I ever had; It just comes to show that American made products is worthless!
