Fiesta S

  • Manual transmission
  • 40,000 miles

The brakes on this car squeak. The pads are still in great shape. I have removed the right front pads, sanded them, greased the backs and the traveling surfaces, and lightly sanded the rotor which is still in good shape. I removed the shoes on both sides, sanded them, and lightly sanded the drums which are in good shape. I could not find any "squeakers" and the pads and shoes are still far from the wear indicators. Maybe the same treatment will fix the squeak, but I think it is traveling around as fast as I can chase it.

I have owned a lot of cars, mostly Japanese. None have squeaked like this. I have a puny little car that sounds like a school bus.

If refurbishing the left front doesn't fix this, I'll try replacing the pads.

One more thing: The engineer who decided to add Torx 40 countersunk hold down bolts with threads wider than the Torx bit should be shot, or made to ride around in my squeaky brake car. It is a b*tch to get those off without chewing up the bolt with the driver. And they were on there like some moron in the service bay ran them in with an air impact wrench.

My next car will be a used Toyota.

If I had to add an entry for squealing brakes, I would need about 200 for this year alone. It only happens in the first 10 mins of driving so I am sure it is the China metal the genius cost cutters at Ford have thought up. For a $17,000 car, it is cheap.

Fiesta SE V4

WELL IT ALL STARTED BY GOING IN AND LETTING THE DEALER KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. AND THEY WOULD TEST DRIVE IT AND COME BACK AND SAY THEY DIDN'T HEAR A THING. THEN ON JULY 1ST I TOOK VIDEO WHILE MY HUSBAND AN I WERE DRIVING, THEN TOOK IT BACK AND THEN THEY WOULD SAY THE BRAKES ARE FINE. THEY CLEANED THEM AND LUBED IT AND THE CAR IS READY TO GO. AND LATER ON IT WOULD SQUEAK AGAIN. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR BACK A TOTAL OF 10 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND A FEW OTHERS! AND THE SAY THEY DON'T KNOW WHY.AND GUESS WHAT, IT STILL SQUEAKS. TODAY 9/4/12. I WILL BE GOING BACK TOMORROW.

The front brakes squeal especially when the car is cold. I've had this in the shop twice (8100K and 12897K). The first time they said they "couldn't reproduce the problem"...the second time they said they confirmed with Ford that this is "normal". I don't think the brakes squealing should ever be considered "normal" or "acceptable".

After first starting the car and preparing to leave the driveway the brakes squeal like they are in bad need of replacing.
