problem #2

Fiesta SE 1.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,040 miles

I had the transmission control module fixed under extended warranty last spring and now the transmission clutch needs to be replaced. Ford knows this is a problem but will only cover the cost for the repair within 7 years or 160,000 km. It is now 8 years for my car so they will not cover the cost of a problem they are aware of. Why is there a time limit on this warranty??? There is a known problem it should not have a time limit but Ford should stand behind their shoddy workmanship as long as the damn car is operational!!!

won't shift until redline

The car sat for about 5 months. It was COMPLETELY DEAD when we attempted to get it running. Not even the security light would flash. Had to hook up a battery pack, everything functioned (radio, gauges, windows, etc.) Wasn't enough charge on the battery so we put it in neutral to jump it, and it said, "Transmission Ready. Shift to D." I didn't do that as the pack was almost run down. Then, we hooked it up to an actual car, and it started. But of COURSE, the Engine light was on, so was the maintenance light, and the radio said, "Transmission Malfunction. Service Now." I didn't know what to think, so i just hit okay. Drove it about 10 or so miles to try and charge the battery that was in it, but in doing so, the transmission WOULD NOT shift out of 1st until 4000 RPM, and every gear after that, (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th) would only up shift at the redline, which in this case was about 6100 RPM. Also, when stopping, the transmission would not down shift until we were completely stopped, and when it did, it would make a knocking noise. Scared to drive it. Have not tried calling ford or taking it in, but wouldn't think this would happen. (NOTE: Battery is bad so we will be needing a new one. Hoping it was just low voltage issues and it can be fixed by the battery and/or scraping the paint off the ground that is attached to the body.)
