Fiesta SE

  • Automatic transmission
  • 17,360 miles

Transmission/engine has a ratcheting/grinding/rattling sound primarily noticeable when I start out from a stop and or am in in a low gear. It i usually louder when going up hills & turning at low speed. The noise is especially apparent after the car has been driven for more than 20 mins. & in stop & go city traffic & in low gears (DPS6 auto).

I am very sad that I made the decision to go with FORD, growing up I heard "Fix or Repair Daily" all the time and still did not shy away from Ford when it came time for me to buy my first car. I've been to the dealership at least 5-6 times since I purchased my 2013 Fiesta as a used car in March of 2014. I been several times, but can only account for 2 visits since they refused to give me something in writing. There is (yup, present tense) really loud noises and shuddering and jerking coming from the transmission. If such a thing is normal, I can't fathom how me buying the car without having being told about it at the point of sale is not illegal. I don't know what I am going to do about it but I know jerking can potentially be a safety hazard for myself & passengers.

I would NEVER advise anyone I care about or anyone I know to go with FORD. I feel very taken advantage of as a customer. The noises are alarming and my passengers often comment in disbelief that my car is so new, that is people riding inside as well as outside. Within 2 weeks of my purchase I rode around with manager of sales representative who purchased the car, had the mechanic look at it, says the sounds come from clutch and they are normal told me not to worry about it. I returned and got the same response, then when I finally refused to leave before my car was serviced, they took my car in and welp - what do ya know - they had to rebuild my entire transmission throws hands in air and had me in a rental for over 30 days.

Just a couple weeks later the sounds because noticeable again so I called and was so frustrated I cried on the phone with one of the service workers. It was at that point that I realized I purchased a lemon. I took it in a 3rd time and got nothing in writing but they told me is was the best they could do after the 33 day servicing they did a couple weeks before that. I returned a couple months later, got the "oh its normal, don't worry about it" response but did not know I should have gotten it in writing. And then again in the most recent days I went & had another person ride with me and they gave me a general letter that FORD produced in response to the amount of complaints, the gentleman said it was something that could be found online and tried to get me to leave without writing up my car. I refused to leave without something in writing specific to my vin number, after they denied my request I requested to speak to the manager who ran my warranty report and saw that I had not one, but two recalls that needed updates. (Had I not requested to speak to a manager and gotten the displeased responses from the service workers I would have never known this).

Clearly I am not only having a problem with FORD but also the dealership. I understand these are two different areas, but both have failed to provide a pleasant customer experience. I think it is safe to say that I purchased a lemon. My efforts here are not to be a nagging refund hungry customer, but rather to warn other people looking to buy a fuel efficient car. I hope that Ford is smart enough to deal with the problem in a better way that just saying its "normal." What happens if there's a death in a car crash caused by the jerking? then what?... then again its "normal" right? smh.

Fiesta S 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 500 miles

The transmission started making scraping noises a few weeks after I bought it. It wasn't too bad at first since I didn't drive the car so much, but when I changed jobs, it was horrible. It would sound like a coffee grinder just driving down the street and would make really bad grinding noises when I turned left. I took it to ford to fix because they had a recall on it, and they kind of fixed it (some programming issue) and it's improved a lot, but it will still make light scraping noises going down the road. Please avoid this car, it's nothing but trouble!

loud "ping, or boing" from transmission

Had the vehicle in for repair/replace of transmission 6 months ago---they kept vehicle for over a month that time. Now this problem! Taking it back to dealer today----wish me luck. Might ask them to paint it a bright "lemon" yellow.
