I own a 2015 Ford Fiesta (the one with an automatic shift, but can be put in Sport Mode). Ford issued an extended warranty for all Fiesta and Focus models 2011-2016 due to the control module having issues and needing replacement. The end of May I got an error message on my car's touch screen stating "Transmission Fail - Service". The service engine light also came on. I called the Ford Dealership that is about 15 miles from my house because I got the car through one of their dealerships. They told me that they had a 2-3 month wait just for an appointment. I cannot be without a car because I am disabled, my son is disabled, and stilI have 3 young grandsons I transport.

So I took it to a local mechanic to see what was wrong. He said it was the control module for the transmission. He called the other local Ford dealership and they told him that they didn't have a transmission specialist and that the part had been on backorder for several months and they had no idea when it would be available. My mechanic ordered the part. The first one was faulty so he ordered a second one. The second one wouldn't communicate with my car. He ordered a third one and that one worked. I was without my car for 6 weeks while he tried to get a part that worked. I could not go to the store, the doctor, or anywhere else because I didn't have my car.

Heaven forbid I would have had to go to the emergency room during that time period. Ford refuses to honor the extended warranty because I didn't have it repaired at a Ford service center. I tried both of the local service centers. Ford said I could have taken it out of town. My emergency roadside service only allows my car to be towed so many miles. The next nearest Ford dealership was at least 35 miles away. I couldn't get the car there because I didn't want to drive it with a transmission problem. Plus I had no way to get back home or to retrieve my car once it was repaired. Also, the local Ford service center said the part was on back order. I had to borrow money to get it repaired. It cost $1250 to repair it, plus during that time, I had to pay 2 car payments and 2 insurance payments on a vehicle I couldn't use.

I am on Social Security disability and so is my son. We cannot afford to have this expense when it was supposed to be covered by Ford under the extended warranty. I wrote a letter to Ford Customer Relations and explained the extreme hardship this has put me through, both financially, physically, and emotionally. I had to beg people to bring me milk, bread, and other groceries so I could feed myself, my son, and my 3 grandsons. This is not okay. Ford needs to compensate me not only for the cost of the repair, but they need to compensate me for all of the anguish caused by not having my car. They also knew this was a problem and how many vehicles were on the road that had this issue. Did they think ahead and have the parts readily available?? NO! They need to rectify this situation.
