I own a 2005 Ford 500. The car has started lurching forward on its own. I have been reading forums and hundreds of other people are having the same problems. They say it is the throttle body. Ford should have a recall on the 500.the Ford freestyle is having the same problem. Do people have to die or be run over before something is done. It is extremely scary when my car lurches forward on its own. Help, please help!

The vehicle has RPM surges at low speeds either in reverse or forward. I nearly had 3-4 accidents in 2 days because of the issue. The vehicle will actually increase up to 1000 rpms by itself while I have my foot on the brake. As soon as I begin to release pressure off the brake while trying to park or negotiate the vehicle at very low speeds the engine will just take off. The first time I noticed it I was backing out of a parking space and the vehicle took off backward causing me to have to slam the brakes on. I almost hit a woman who was passing on the other side of the lane.

Backing out of the driveway in a 2005 Ford 500 AWD, car stumbles then launched backward violently. Luckily I had my foot on the brake or the car would have kept going. "failsafe engine mode" appears on the dashboard. This has happened several times before. Should be a recall on this car.

I have a 2005 Ford Five hundred with 68K miles. I was leaving a rest area and accelerating onto the interstate. My car shuddered and had no power. I noticed the engine fail safe mode light. I went to the shoulder and stopped the car. I waited a minute and restarted the car. My check engine light came on. This is repeat of symptoms I had two weeks ago. The Ford dealer replaced the throttle body assembly two weeks ago. At that time, I was in line at my grandson's school. Same symptoms except that the car shuddered and then accelerated. Fortunately, I had my foot on the brake. Over the last six months, I have had repeated engine fail safe modes, but have always reset when I turn off the car and wait a few minutes. Ford has a safety issue with this throttle body assembly. Mine has been replaced twice. Car is in the shop for the third time for the same problem.

2005 Ford 500 has issue with lunging when put into gear. Car started to stall check engine light and throttle light came on took it in no one knew what the code was. Finally found out it was the throttle body needed to be replaced. This issue is happening alot on the Five hundreds. Part is on back order as of today over 700 are on backorder some for 5 months Ford should be held accountable for this and pay for rental cars for people who are put out.

  • 85,000 miles
2005 Ford 500 with approx. 85,000 miles lurches forward or in reverse without pressing the accelerator after period of idle such as at a red light or in line at a drive through restaurant. The lurch is significant, violent enough to make passenger think they were hit from behind. I narrowly avoided collisions with cars in front or behind me. Dealer informed me that it was caused by a defective throttle body. Parts to repair are back ordered with a 2 month wait and a cost of $500. This is no longer covered by warranty or extended warranty. This defect is dangerous.

I have a 2005 Ford Five hundred and as I was driving up the grape vine in California the transmission started bucking, and kicked in to neutral, I almost got ran off the highway at a couple thousand feet elevation by a semi because the vehicle would not go. I had to leave the vehicle there which is 8 hours from where we reside in Arizona.

Was driving in town on Tuesday morning and my Ford 500 (2005) shut down and the message failsafe engine mode came on along with a wrench. This could have been potentially dangerous, I was fortunate that this occurrence happened when there was not a lot of traffic on the road. Car is now immovable and waiting to be towed in to dealership.

Consumer said that the engine failed and caused a safety problem. The vehicle lost power when pressing the accelerator. This happened for a month but has been intermittent. The engine felt like it was skipping. The speed that the vehicle was traveling was not a factor nor were the road conditions. The consumer took vehicle to dealership twice but the problem recurred. The manufacturer has not been contacted. The dealership suggested that the problem could be a computer related issue. The owner had the black box installed in the vehicle and turned it over to the dealership this morning. The problem has still not been resolved. Owner is taking the vehicle back to dealer next week for additional testing.
