About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Throttle body failure on 2005 Ford Five hundred. First identified in August 2009. I had to wait 6 months for replacement part which failed after installation. Second replacement part has been installed but doubt if it will solve problem. Total cost to date over $1000. Faulty design which Ford should held responsible.

Car stalled while accelerating from dead stop or increasing speed to merge onto free. Received error message, "engine failsafe mode". first two times was able to turn off car and restart but third time was unable to restart and was stuck on freeway. Problem occurred three times in under 30 days. Dealer ran diagnostic and found that it was an electronic throttle problem but was unable to locate part from any local dealer. Part was on back order and not expected in for another 16 weeks and was told that problem could occur again until part was replaced. I wonder why there is no recall if there are enough cars having this same problem to cause a backlog of 16+ weeks.
