Flex Limited AWD 3.5L V6 Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 97,555 miles

On Aug 10, 2017, our 2010 Ford Flex was struggling to go up a hill while the cruise was set. On the next hill, the engine began to shudder aggressively. At the bottom of the hill, we pulled into a local store. The engine was turned off, then back on with the same result. When in neutral, it seemed to shudder less at higher RPM's. The vehicle was not driven after this point and towed on a flatbed truck by CAA to a repair shop in Trenton, Ontario. Upon inspection, there was oil found on the spark plugs and the truck was smoking heavily out the tail pipe. Upon completing a compression test, there was no compression in cylinder 2. A new engine was advised. This vehicle has been serviced regularly with scheduled oil changes completed on time. When reviewing forums of other Flex owners, this seems to be a recurring problem in the ecoboost engine, catastrophic failure of the engine and no compression in a cylinder. I am unsure of the status of the coolant, but this appears to be related in many instances. Repairs are upwards of $10K CDN for a new engine and the required 2 turbos. This is unacceptable and I would like compensation for this obvious defect in the engines, otherwise, we will be pursuing class action lawsuit.

I purchased this car used from a dealer who gave me an extended 3 year warranty or 100,000 miles, on top of the miles already incurred on the car. It seemed like a great deal because everything should be covered right? WRONG!

I got all of my oil changes in a timely manner but one couldn't be accounted for. ONE. And low and behold the engine coolant failed, leaked into the crank shaft, and $5000 later I have a completely new engine at no expense to the actual warranty. I am still trying to fight this actually. Well it is just a few days short of the 6 month warranty on the labor and parts done for this fix, and once again my coolant tank is filled with oil!!! My car is sitting at the shop right now but won't be looked at until Monday...it is Friday, which leaves this car with the possibility of coolant sitting once again in the engine causing it to rust out.

I am so livid at the issues with this car and wish more than anything I could get out of it but we are too far upside down to be able to afford a different car. Car Max has also been no help in the matter not to mention the dealership in our area doesn't want to deal with the extended warranty.

To top it off...only having had the car for 2 years at this point the TIP in the computer has been replaced once and now needs replaced yet again and last time it took the dealership 2 months to get me my car back...all the while I am paying payments on a car that sits more in the shop than me actually driving it.

It would be a great car. I attend lots of conventions and require lots of room for props and costumes which this vehicle has ample space. But the amount of issues with the car have made me decide that I will NEVER purchase a Ford again and I will be looking for a way out of this vehicle as quickly as possible. I am sad that our American companies seem completely unaffected that their local consumers are so badly effected by these issues and unconcerned at the amount of money we must spend to keep their product running. This should not be happening!

Twice this month engine completely died while driving. Loss of steering, brakes, all power. Put it into P when it finally coasted to a stop thankfully not hitting anyone. Started like nothing happened.

Dealer took it for about a week, could not replicate problem, states there isn't a problem because no codes showed up on their computer. I guess it's OK to drive with 4 kids in the car just waiting for a catastrophic event to occur. Customer Service at Ford was no help at all saying the same thing.

Flex Limted V6 Eco Boost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,750 miles

Bought this car 8/13/11. Engine blew 7 days later. Dealer is telling me that they will put in a rebuilt engine.

Could take up to 2 months. I asked if the value of the car would be affected and was told no it won't. I think they not telling me the truth. I am going to talk to the service manger and tell them I want a engine with no less then 12000 mile on the rebuild.

or a new one, or I want a new car.
