Focus 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 143,000 miles

I have a 2000 ford focus, 5 speed, single overhead cam, plain Jane as you can get (old style wind up windows that you have to wind backwards for them to work). I was going down the highway and the speedometer dropped to 0 then shot back up to the mph I was going a couple times. The next morning it started fine and ran for a few minutes then spit and sputtered then shut down and would not start, it just clicked as I turned the key. Then a few minutes later it did start but all the gages were going nuts. If anyone has any suggestions or knows how to fix this PLEASE let me know as this is my only transportation to work every day! Thanks

Update from May 20, 2010: We checked the ALTERNATOR and it seems to not be working right. We are going to have it rebuilt. Will let you know what happens.

a few times now I'll be driving along and look at the speedometer to see that it is stuck at zero. after another 5 minutes of driving it is usually back to working again.

Had a stuck speedo, where it was maxed out. It occurred after the battery went dead. After failed attempts to start the car it kinda buggered the speedo. I used the unlock method, which may have helped, but it wasn't until I drove it at highway speeds that it began working properly. No need to replace you gauge cluster if it happens to you--unless it doesn't work of course.

THE RADIO CONSOLE WIRES BURNT OUT WHICH LEAD TO THE HEATER KNOBS NOT WORKING SO WE REPLACED IT AT 400.00 + JUST FOR THE PART- 6 WEEKS LATER IT'S BURNT OUT AGAIN. THE SPEED ODOMETER WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO- IT'S AN OFF AND ON THING. NONE OF THIS IS COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY SO WHAT DO I DO? PAY 400.00 + EVERY 6 WEEKS SO THAT I CAN HAVE HEAT?
