The consumer stated there were multiple problems with the vehicle. The brakes make noises and pulsated when the pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer where the brake light switch and ignition cylinder switches were replaced. The dealer also turned the drums, replaced the brake pads and resurfaced the front rotors. There was a vibration in the front end when braking. The lower ball joint, right wheel bearings, right front sway bar link, bone socket, steering rack column and tie rod ends were replaced in an attempt to remedy the problem. The tail light covers retained moisture and condensation built up. The dealer replaced the tail light covers and fuses that were blown due to the moisture. Lastly, the contact noticed the rear seat was loose and upon inspection the dealer discovered an anchor and hinge problem. The back hinge and pillar were replaced.

The ignition on my 2000 Ford Focus is locking up to the point where I cannot turn my key. The car has 47,000 miles on it. I was stranded for 20 mins the other night trying to get the key to turn. Spend up to 1 to 2 minutes now each time I get in my car reinserting the key until it finally turns. I have also tried my spare key, which is brand new, with same results. From what I have read, this is a common problem, and probably only a matter of time until I have to replace the ignition switch.

The factory power entry remote failed to open the doors and the trunk. The batteries have been changed but the problem still exist. The dealership feels that the problem is due to a failure in the fuse. The dealership was unable to locate the fuse. The fuse should be located behind the main fuse in the vehicle per the owner's manual. Please provide any additional information.

Rear brake lights went out. Consumer replaced fuse, and while driving started smelling smoke. Consumer had to use excessive effort in order to stop vehicle. Once stopped, consumer turned key to off position and engine kept running. Consumer then removed "replaced" brake fuse, and engine stopped. With fuse removed brake lights worked. But, consumer will occasionally smell smoke from fuse box.

When I get close to 1/4 of a tank of gasoline, my car begins to die or sputter. It has died several times and wont restart. The other day I was coming off an exit ramp from the highway and it died coming around the sharp turn. I was almost hit by several cars while trying to get the car started long enough to move it off the ramp. After about 20 or so times of turning the ignition and gunning the pedal, I got it moved into a safe area off the highway. It took about 45 minutes and a lot of conk outs to get it moved. I was stranded and very angry. I was even more angry when I got home and did a little research to find that this same complaint has been made to Ford/NHTSA and never reported to the public. I have had 6 recalls this year on this [xxx] car and I am very concerned for my safety now. I got the car because of its great ratings for safety- now I am afraid everytime I put my son in the car of it blowing up on me. I want to get rid of it but I cant because I owe more on the loan then I can get for trade in (my guess is the value of the car has totally fallen because of all these recalls). I am so angry with Ford and I am afraid for my safety while driving this car. Please do something about this! thank you. Oh and the gas gauge never reads correctly. I have to count my miles to make sure I am okay on gas between fill ups. The gauge will just drop to below E and the light comes on for no reason. Then after a bit of driving it will go back to normal. Very odd. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I want to report a problem with my Focus. My car seems to have a problem that the dealer is not able to pinpoint. Whenever I have my lights on at night I have a bad poblem with the headlights flickering along with my dash lights. The dealer says it cant duplicate the problem but it happens every time I turn the lights on. My niece also has a 2000 Focus and it does the same thing. I think there is a problem with the electrical system on this car along with the many other problems with this car. Have you gotten any other complaints of this nature. It seems to be a ground problem. I have also noticed it on the road with other focuses that I see driving at night. Please let me know if other people have complained about this problem thank you howard K. lamb.

We drove off the lot without having the pdi performed on the car, whcich resulted in low fluids in the vechicle, especially the transmission fluid. The low fluid caused the transmission to slip, and revved the engine, which made the car ride and drive real hard. The 1st day we had problems with the battery, which was already dead in the car. And now we received on Dec 12,1999 a letter stating that the car was recalled because it had problems with fluids leaking into the cruise control panel, and to contact the dealer as soon as possible. So we contacted the dealer and let them know of the recall, and ask when it was possible to bring the car in. We spoke with the service manager who stated to us that the parts were orderd for Georgia locations, but none of the parts ever had reach their location.. now that leaves us a problem as of today Dec 18,1999, with constantly calling to find out when the part would be available and not only that the car needs to be seen also for the blown lighter fuse, as well as the ignition signal failure needs to be serviced also. We need immediate attention to this matter because the holidays are coming and we cannot use our car the way it suppose to be used, if we are trying to drive it out of town, please help us in this tough situation, because no one else is trying to understand that when a car is purchased brand new, it should not have these many problems with it in this short period of ownerhip, thank you.
