Vehicle recalled in February 2001 to repair problem:"some of the affected vehicles have a rigid vinyl sleeve around the wiring at the hinge point of the rear decklid. During decklid opening and closing, movement is concentrated at this point and may cause one or more wires within the harness to fatigue and break. Depending on which wires break, it may result in the loss of license plate lamps, center high-mount stop lamps, stop lamps or tail lamps. Loss of this rear lighting could increase the risk of an accident." Took vehicle in for repair but the following have failed since: Right tail lamp, reverse lights. On 09/12/2007 a Ford customer relations rep stated that my vehicle has never had any recalls. I have four of five of the notices they sent me.

Rear deck lid brake light incredibly sensitive to vibration with push in bulbs. Just closing trunk causes brake light to fail. Dealer claims this is not a recall.

We have a 2000 Ford Focus SE and about two weeks ago the headlights stopped working (late at night). It was then discovered that every time a new fuse was put in, it would just blow right away. We took it to a private automobile repair shop and they discovered that the deck lid wire harness had broken wires at the bend area causing the loss of power and lights which resulted in damage to other wires. There were multiple wires which were damaged and needed to be repaired. This was all because of the defect in the deck lid wire harness. We have a copy of a NHTSA recall bulletin which states that this defect was under a recall in December 2000. We have called Ford and also spoke to our local Ford dealer and they are telling us that our car does not have a recall for this defect. It is very obvious to anyone who would see the rear deck lid that there is a very clear defect. The wires are frayed and melted together. The gentleman who repaired our car said this is definitely the cause of the problem. The wires on the deck lid are still need of repair and something needs to be done to the bend area to prevent this from happening again. Ford is telling us that they are not responsible and it is not their problem. The reference number for the NHTSA recall is 00V411000. Mfg. Campaign no: 00S50. We would appreciate any help in getting this matter settled to prevent further damage. We would also like to be reimbursed for the garage bill which was caused from the deck lid wire harness defect. Thank you in advance for your help with this.

The consumer received a recall on the deck lid wire harness, the recall repair was performed at a Ford dealership in 2001. This recall repair did not repair the problem, the brake lights and license plate light failed afterwards. The consumer returned to the dealer, there were some repairs, but the consumer did not know what repairs were exactly made at that time. Several months later, the brake lights went out because the consumer was pulled over by authorities for not having brake lights. The consumer returned to the dealership and paid for the repairs out of pocket. The next occurrence resulted in the consumer smelling smoke for which she could not determine the cause. She pulled over for a moment, and began to pull out to drive to the dealer, and a passerby honked the horn. The consumer noticed smoke coming form the trunk compartment. The consumer shut the engine off, and while looking for something to put the fire out, black smoke began to erupt from the trunk. Upon inspection, the fire had extinguished by itself and the smoke was coming from the wiring. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, who wanted to inspect the vehicle further. The dealer spliced the wires up into the area where the fire was, and now consumer is concerned a fire may again occur. The consumer has not contacted Ford at this time.

I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle just last month the cable and motor in the rear passenger side door window burned up and now will cost over $600. To fix I can not get the front rack & pinion fixed because it will cost $1800. The transmission is going out now it slips out of gear sometimes not at all. I just got the brakes repaired for the third time in may and they are again squeaking. I have all of my receipts for work done to this car. I am now having to put power steering fluid in once or twice a week. The automatic locks on the doors lock and unlock all the time, and the electric instruments turn off by themselves. (radio) the driving lights go out at times and will not come back on. Please help me, I am a single mother and have complained to courtesy Ford they want to charge me diagnostic $90 for each item I am complaining about and then the amount it will take to fix all of the things wrong. This vehicle I just recently found out has had six different owners before me and one was rental car company. I do not know who the rest of them were. Courtesy Ford had said there was only one owner. They will not listen to me and now the Focus' have a front suspension recall that may have been the problem the whole time with the brakes and the tire replacements and the power steering problems.!!! please help me.
