The contact owns a 2000 Ford Focus. The contact stated that when driving on the highway approximately 55 mph with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle suddenly began to accelerated. She tried to turn the cruise control off; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate to almost 90 mph. She was forced to shut the engine off to stop the vehicle. When she turned the ignition on again, the engine began to rev loudly. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop. The mechanic told her that the cruise control cable snapped. She called the manufacturer in reference to recall 00V302000, vehicle speed control cables and was told that her vehicle was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired to-date. The current and failure mileages were approximately 116,000.

The ABS engaged and the vehicle accelerated to 12,000 RPM's. the contact drove into a curb in order to stop the vehicle. He shut off the engine and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer replaced the vehicle speed control cable. The manufacturer stated that there were no recalls; however, NHTSA campaign id number 00V302000 (vehicle speed control:cables) was related to the failure. The failure mileage was 70,924 and current mileage was 71,200.

After purchasing my car in Jan of 2000. I had to take it into the shop 3 days after for a linkage problem. I was driving in reverse and reversing in drive. I have taken the car in quite a few times since then for a loud noise coming from under the hood, for it not accelerating when entering the freeway, and for it accelerating for no reason at all. Each time I took it in they said that was normal. Which I know it was not because I have been in other 2000 Ford Focus' and they are any where as loud as mine is and they do not take off like mine does, and the pick up speed is wonderful. I am aware that there are other vehicles manufactured near that date that are or were on recall. I would appreciate it if you could look into this, so I can get it fixed before any one is seriously injured.

Defective wheel bearings replaced. Tire punctured and replaced. Hesitation on acceleration. Fuel pump and gasket replaced. Tires rotted out. Key stuck in ignition. Replaced malfunctioned shifter assembly. Trunk lid wouldn't latch. Latch replaced.
