In July I had to have the fuel pump and sensor replaced as the guage would read empty when the tank was full. Today, the car stalled while I was parking it. I smelled gasoline and got out of the car to find a large amount of gas leaking all over the ground. I then had to have the car towed to the dealer, as the car is still under warrenty. However, before the car could be towed I had to call the fire dept. As aaa will not tow a car leaking gas until they get an ok from the fire dept.

When merging on I87 with my 2000 Ford Focus ztx (52,000 mi) bucked / hesitated severely when I pressed the accelerator down hard in an attempt to bring the car up to merging speed quickly. I was almost rear-ended because driver behind me didn't expect my car to slow down so suddenly. Very dangereous situation. Happened multiple times, every time when car was under moderate to heavy load, with 1/4 tank of gas or less. Took the car to Ford. Dealer found fuel pump (inside of fuel tank) clogged with debris. Fuel tank was flushed and new fuel pump installed. Fuel tank should not be shedding debris and fuel pump should not fail on car that is only 3 yrs old.

When accelerating, the vehicle lost power. Took vehicle to dealer who said it was the fuel pump problem. This occurred especially when traveling on ramps and clover leaps. The power would resume on low speeds. The dealer stated that the pressure would drop when going around corners. (the fuel pump and filter were replaced) this was the second fuel pump that was replaced since August 2001.

Faulty fuel pump, made vehicle unsafe to operate. Contacted Ford customer service and selling dealer on 07-18-03 ref splitting cost of repair as this is a known defect on the 2000 and 2001 model year Ford Focus. As of this date have not had any response from either. The dealership service manager that effected the replacement of the pump stated that the new pump they installed on my vehicle was a much upgraded part from the original. There fore I contend that Ford Motor Company is well aware that this was a defective part installed on the above model years. There should be a recall of these model years for this defect as the fuel pump failure could cause a motor vehicle accident. The cost of the repair was $385.42 complainant is seeking reimbursement of all -or- 80% of repair cost as has been done for other consumers. Problem started under warranty but, did not become severe until vehicle was out of warranty coverage.

I have a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3. Ever since I bought the car, I have had problems. The day I bought it, I noticed transmission problems, two months after that, I had brake problems. Since I have had the car I have gotten my brakes done twice. I have had the car about 15 months now. I also had my ignition cylinder replaced, a fuel filter replaced, and now my car dies when I slow down. I have had nothing but problems with this car.

My 2000 Ford Focus has recently begun stalling unexpectedly, especially I've noticed this when making a turn, and when my gas tank is between 1/2 and a 1/4 tank of gas. I believe this is a safety issue, as it stalls unexpectedly. I've read some forum with other Focus owners who are having the same issues, related to the fuel pump. This happens fairly frequently if I let my gas tank get between 1/2 and 1/4 tank.

Fuel delivery problem, possibly vapor lock/fuel pump related (a common $450-$600 repair way too early in the life of the 2000 & 2001 Ford Focus according to anecdotal E-mail evidence on internet chat sites), but equally likely to be related to EA02-022. 1st symptom was loss of power upon shifting into 2nd gear. Speed there was acceleration from 12 mph up into 2nd gear. The car recovered after a near stall with oncoming traffic approaching. 2nd incident was the next day (today) where I was shifting from around 25 mph into third gear in morning rush hour traffic and was nearly rear-ended because the vehicle stalled. Fortunately I was albe to pull over to the shoulder, whereupon the vehicle would not accelerate in any gear/was completely asthmatic. After two minutes in place the vehicle recovered and I was able to proceed. The mechanic wants to replace the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel filter hose and fuel return line....but if the problem is systemic to the fuel delivery system prior to the fuel pump pursuant to the referenced study, then a new pump will be able to draw fuel better/serve as a temporary fix. But, like the original, it too will fail early due to the higher demand on drawing the fuel through the blockage. The tank was approx. 1/4 full at the time of both incidents.

Nov of 2002 took to dealer the car was purchased from, told them it was running sluggish and the gas guage didn't always register. Told nothing wrong, could not dulpiate problem. Took to neighborhood dealer for same problem, replace fuel filter. Had all this work done before warranty expired in Feb 2003. Never was notified about possible fuel pump. I feel this was left out so the Ford deaership and company didn't have to cover this part. I have had problems with both locate dealership on getting repairs completed. Having to return the car two or three times to one dealers. I have filed complaints about the leak of service with Ford. My milage is 39,400, I have my service done regularly by Ford. Went to take my daughter to school on June 27th,2003. My car started then died, them wouldn't start again for about 30 minutes. Drove to dealer very sluggish. I have spoke to Ford about paying for the repairs with no luck. Their service managers was the one who bought it to my attention this was a common problem with the Focus. Then I starting to investigate it myself and his right. He told me of about 10 fuel pumps his replaced in less then 2 months. I personally found other Focus owners with the same problem. Ford needs to recall fuel pump and make this car safe.

I'm losing power while driving, worse while making turns. It occasionally stalls out, mostly while making hard right turns. I talked with someone in the service dept. Of a Ford dealership and she says it's the fuel pump which will cost $480. She also stated that there have been a lot of problems with them. I have found that many Focus owners are having the same problem and Ford is aware of it, but still they have made no recalls.

Focus has around 60,000 miles. But now all of a sudden the motor will sputter after you start the car and just die out. I had one of the egr sensor replace its located on the firewall and also I had an oil change and just installed new spark plugs, wires, air filter and fuel filter and I had a friend have a quick look at the fuel rail and the vacuum hose they look fine. I here that the fuel pump is the issue with late model Focus. I just notice when parking the car backwards at an incline in the driveway, it would start but rev-up very high for about 5-10 seconds and still die out. My next step is to have obd II test done at aaa to see if they can help out, if not my last choice is Ford but I rather not the hell them Ford, well my point is I also have Acura 90 with 183,000 miles and not even close to the repairs.

Fuel pump failed in my 2000 Ford Focus. The pump went out as I was coming to a stop causing the car to stall and the power steering to go off. I was unable to steer, and was fortunate that there was a red light so I could restart the vehicle. This was the fourth time that happened.
