2002 Ford Focus...A/c light not coming on at all...at first. Friend asked me to fix this car. All posts described blower motor resistor as fan working on 1,2 and 3...on 4, by default, all resistance is bypassed and blower motor works at full blast, but A/C doesn't operate. This car, when I first got it, all fan speeds worked, and A/C light didn't come on at all. I couldn't even bypass the low pressure switch to force A/C to kick on to take freon as I was sure it was low. Threw caution to the wind and bought the blower motor resistor. On the way home from getting part, all symptoms showed up, A/C light switched on for the first time, on low only. Not on 2, or 3 and blower worked on 4 at full blast, but light only came on on level 1. So compressor was only running on level 1 fan speed, but it was cycling, so I was right that it also needed freon. Replaced the blower motor resistor Z(It is behind and to the left of the glove box, 1 bolt/screw actually, 1 plug in harness, 8mm bolt/screw, easy job. A/C and blower worked on all levels of fan speed, light was on...just needed freon added. After adding freon it cooled to 65 degrees at idle, 58 degrees on the interstate.It had just started raining, i got a little bit wet, jumped in and took car to friends house, my man nips were hard as rocks before I got the two miles there. Problem solved. 22 dollars for the part at Auto Zone. It would have been a pleasure but the chick at Auto Zone was a hideous Slagathor beast. Didn't they used to hire cute girls? Whatever, she got me the right part. If you have A/C problems with any Ford, suspect this part FIRST!
