Well. please, please never buy a ford focus. The problems I have had with this car. As I live in N.E. I need heat to get the frost off and so on. Back in 2008 I replaced, myself the blower resistor. It worked then. Now in 2010, November, I have no blower function at all. The ford dealer will not even look at my car for under $108.00. I tried replacing the older part from back in 2008, no luck. The heater motor is most likely gone due to the FACT THAT ALL FORD FOCUSES HAVE A WATER LEAK IN THE PASSENGER SIDE. By the way, my car is a base model, 2002 Ford Focus, with no AC and no power windows. But whatever you, DO NOT BUY A FOCUS. Thanks!

Fan stopped working except only on high. The only way to get heat was to run the fan on high, which is very noisy and annoying.
When fixed several months later, the dealer mechanic wrote that the blower resistor blew due to water leak. The water leak originates from a loose fitting cowl for the cabin air filter.

Well I'm now on my second resistor. First resistor didn't last a month. Must be a bad production run, as I look at the same problem from other owners
Update from Aug 14, 2011: Well, returned the second resistor back to Ford and installed another (third) one. This worked finally. Definitely a bad production run of resistors.

No air conditioning, and heater only works on high (4) My mechanic replaced the resistor and states that it is a very common failure

Blower switch/Resistor been replaced twice. When replacing New one found as I turned the ignition switch to make sure it worked before I put the screw in it to put it back I touched the back with the ceramic on it. It was to hot to touch. Not sure what the problem is but the new switch worked but something makes it hot. Did notice the fan squeaks a little at times.

Heater Blower Motor started loosing the use of settings. first if would not work on the lowest level #1 but would work on all the rest. then lost #2 setting then #3 setting went. by then it was full blast or nothing. took it to a dealer and they said it was common for the resistor to go. took about 4 days to get in new resistor and have it installed. Not that bad of a problem but with all the other problems i have had with this car its just starting to add up to alot of stress. have decided to list all the problems with this web site.

When sitting at a location for more than a minute you will have to turn on defrost to get the fan to come on.
