I have the same paint problem with my Ford Focus -- 2004, taken care of, paint just started cracking in circles, the chipping/curling up and rusting underneath. Autobody shop says that it definitely was not caused by an impact, but from the paint application probably being too thick -- he was shocked at the thickness of the peeling chips.

Ford repair guy said he hasn't seen a Ford do this in "15 or 20 years" (note -- he was maybe 25, no older). Said warranty only lasts 3 years. Paint on a car should go longer than that -- especially on the roof. I have family member with cars 10/15 years old with nicer looking paint than mine; my roof is completely ripped-up looking.

This is a totally egregious situation -- if Ford doesn't paint things well, they should fix it, and non-impact, non abrasive paint problems should be covered under warrant for at least the standard warranty rate. This is not rocks, hail, or winter/salt damage -- it's bad paint. I'm never buying from Ford again -- that's a guarantee.
