About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
I had my car in the garage for a fuel problem which was solved by a computer update and while it was there, I had the dealer do an oil change. For some reason they checked the brakes and found that my left front brakes where gone. They replaced the front rotors and pads and I told them to put the old parts in my car. Upon my own inspection of the old parts, 3 of the pads still had about 1/4 inch of pad left while the inner driver side pad had nothing left to it. The driver side rotor also had significant wear to it while the passenger side still looked and felt fine.

Brake problem. At about 2000 to 3000 miles breaks starts to squeal and grind. Took it in to service at dealer complaining about problem, as it got worse and was not normal in 6,000 miles. Was told no problem, routine break in. Then at 12,000 miles still a problem. Went to another dealer, said the same thing. Now with nearly 18,000 miles, rotors are grooved very bad. Evidence and warning was evident in the earlier miles as well. Ford has done nothing to help. I feel they owe me a new pair of rotors and pads. Also, complained of clutch noise problem. I have heard of a tsb claiming certain 2004 Focus have a transaxle misalignment causing pre-mature clutch wear and noise. Wiper switch has been replaced by rc lacy Ford, better service, but they won't service me anymore, since I did not buy it there, and ravena is so close. I need to contact crossroads about all future warranty issues and complaints. Doors in the rear also stick, and wear of door striker is evident. Tires have also been worn pretty bad pirelli 195/60 R15. Back pair are totally bald, and only have had like 18,000 miles, I think it was a alignment issue, which for a car 17 months old should not be an issue. I noticed wear at around 13,000 miles. During my second tire rotation. Have had too many problems with this new vehicle. Also issues with extreme chipping around the rear wheel well. Also have had a hesitation problem at about 25 mph. #rd gear used to be difficult to engage. Please help me resolve these issues. I got nowhere with the dealers myself. The VIN is not the appropriate VIN. My car is a 2004 ZX5 duratec 2.3E 5 spd. Almost all options included. Thank you.

The consumer stated that while driving, the cruise control activated by itself and caused the vehicle to accelerate. The acceleration was rapid in nature. The contact was not attempting to use the cruise control at that time, she was approaching a stop sign. The vehicle has not been to dealer or a mechanic for a diagnosis of the problem. The consumer also stated the windshield lining was coming apart, one of the rotors were warped. Updated 11/29/05.

Brakes failed on our 2004 Ford Focus ZX5 4 door hatchback as my wife went to stop at a stop sign leaving our development and was broadsided by a truck. This resulted in a total loss of vehicle and injuries sustained to my wife. Police and medical personnel were on the scene. She was transported to hospital.

Car was purchased new 6/15/04 with 317 miles. There has been over $1500 worth of factory work done on this vehicle from brake pads, rotors, sensor being replaced on transmission. Now the car is constantly jerking when accelerating at 20 mph and stalling. On February 16th, my car wouldn't start and was jerking. I had it towed to my home. On Friday, February 18th the radio came on without the key being placed in the ignition. I have filed the lemon law and suggest others do it as well if there problems aren't resolved. I was told my car has an electrical shortage, but don't want it back. I have a small child and am afraid something terrible will happen.

About 1 month after I bought my car the brakes started to squeak every time I would apply they brakes. It has continuted to do so up until even this morning. The rotors now have grooves in them, and the brake pads still have well over 50% of the pad remaining. So far nothing has been done other than to say "it must be moisture."

When braking at any speed consumer heard a squeaking noise coming from brake rotors/pads. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

I brought car brand new from Ford in March 2004. Since then the brakes, and calipers, rotors have squealed horribly. I have taken the car back to the shop three times had numerous phone conversations with them and the problem is not fixed. I finally took it to a mechanic outside Ford who told me the rotors were warped and glazed. This car is only3 months old. They are at a.8 and should be 1 inch. The front brakes have nver been replaced. I have children that ride in this vehicle with me.
