Got this car used about two years ago right before my baby was born because I needed a reliable vehicle and it has been nothing but hell since.

•Stalling- it has stalled on me numerous times and, no matter how many times I clean the fuel system, it always comes back. This is the most minor problem and probably just occurring because I can't afford 100% fuel all the time.

•Radio draining battery- this was and is an annoying problem which ultimately ended in me pulling the fuse and no longer having a radio or charger port that works in my car.

•Battery dying/car not starting- No matter what I do this problem always comes back. I don't know if there is problems with the wiring or what but I have cleaned corrosion off, changed the battery multiple times, had the alternator go out on me and replaced that, replaced the starter I believe twice now and the car still either has problems when trying to start or wont start at all.

I've put more money into this car then it's worth and would not recommend it to anybody. Nothing but a pain in the ass vehicle.

For the past year I have had a variety of electrical issues.

I replaced the battery in January of 2015. The alternator was replaced in June of 2014. I had a remote starter installed in January 2014. It stopped working in early 2015.

1. Problem began small with the car starting fine, but it would take a few seconds longer than normal to start. Not all the dash indicators lights would light up when it was started (like they should for a couple of seconds once to car is started.

2. Radio would occasionally not turn on. Clock display was totally blank. Would sometimes read "low battery" or nothing at all. Once car was started radio would always come back with full display. Would come back on with standard preset stations and the clock reset. My presets always available. This happens constantly. Also when it's first started all of the needles on the gauges shake for a couple of seconds before they set to where they are supposed to be.

3. Twice when leaving work car started fine, but then would shut off completely. Nothing worked. Corrosion was built up on battery connection. Knocked/cleaned off build up and car started fine.

4. November 2016 car wouldn't start. Bought new hardware to attach battery cables more securely. Once it was jumped the car started fine and seemed to run stronger. All dash indicator lights illuminated for the first time in months. All interior lights are brighter.

5. Within a week the radio started acting up as it has been. Once again only a few of the dash indicator lights light up again when first started.

6. First week in January had to have a jump when car wouldn't start in below zero temps after sitting all night outside.

7. Yesterday car started fine when I left for work in the AM. Pushed the button for the rear defrost and there was a ding sound and the hazard lights flashed once. Defrost would not turn on and the button would flash the hazard light once every time I pushed it for about five minutes. Defrost worked fine for the rest of the drive and hasn't done that since.

8. Today I was driving home from work and when I was halfway home when all the lights in the dash lit up and the radio reset. It did this twice in quick succession. The car never shut off and the power steering was fine. It drove fine. The gas gauge showed about a quarter more of a tank of gas than I had.

Ok. So, what now???

Focus ZX4 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

To sum it up, the car was doing fine but then it would blink the headlights from low to high over and over again really quickly while all the interior lights would do similar and the car would do it much worse when accelerating. Once pulled over, turned the switch off, there was an odd noise, everything reset itself and it hasn't done it since.

Focus SE 2.0L

  • Manual transmission

I had been smelling something similar to burning rubber for a while, but thought it was just dust or something insignificant because the car was running perfectly. Then, I was at a drive up and smelled serious burning, so I parked and popped the hood to check it out and there was a small fire under the hood. I took it in and they said the alternator had generated too much current causing excess heat and a fire in the wiring. I'm upset because this is the second alternator I've had to replace in 60,000 miles. Ford is notoriously bad with alternators and yet they don't seem to want to do anything to fix the problem.

Have had this car in the shop so many times it is not funny. Never buy a Ford! They always find a way to make you pay for whatever is wrong with your car. Although we purchased the extended warranty that is supposed to give you a rental car when your car is in the shop; for some reason they say we are not eligible. Not only did our car break down they did not even offer us a ride home! We have bought at least 7 cars and trucks from this dealership. The car would not start and all of the electrical items were going off and on in the car. The radio kept going off and on even though we kept turning it off the cd player was trying to run at the same time the radio was going. It constantly switched from am to fm. The a/c kept going off and on even though we shut it off. The battery could not hold a charge and the car made no effort to turn over. AAA came and gave us a jump we could not even make it home. We were close to the ford dealership and barely made it up the hill to get there. They told us that we might not be covered under the extended warranty. When we asked about the rental car provided by our warranty they said they would have to see if what was wrong with the car was covered by the warranty. But that will not be until tomorrow. We were stranded at Ford with no ride home and a car that will not run yet again. Never buy from Ford ;they still have not fixed the recall items on our other vehicle.
