Don't know what the cause is, but the high beams keep turning themselves on and off while the car is driving. The headlights don't need to be on for this to happen. The high beams will just flick on and off at random times, with an audible 'click', at a rate of about 100 times/minute. It will click on and off about 50 times/episode, over a duration of, on average, one half minute. There will be 3 to 10 bouts of this in a single evening of pizza deliveries (my great job) and then no occurrence of this problem for weeks at a time. When it is flipping on and off, there will be a hiccup in the overall electrical system, enough to turn of the radio completely, resetting all of my radio presets, and then turning the radio back on! There was one night that this occurred for about 30 minutes straight... that particular episode, there was intermittent cutting out OF THE ENGINE while I was accelerating on the highway. THAT lead me to think that this electrical problem is affecting the ENTIRE electrical system, including the spark plugs. One expert informed me that this sounds like the relay for the high beam headlights. The relay is likely faulty, he said, and I could try replacing it. It would explain why the high beams are the only think turning themselves ON and off (not just losing power). The relay is located in the interior fuse box, which I have yet to be able to locate.
