Focus SES 2.0L I4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

Very scary issue - gas pedal gets stuck when it's cold. I was in a school parking lot and had to constantly push hard on the brake to prevent it from driving itself into other cars. When I parked the car, it revved all the way up to the limiter. To stop it you have to push the gas harder to unstick it.

ON MY WAY TO WORK ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR WAS ACCELERATING AND I WAS NOT PUSHING DOWN ON THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKE TO GET IT TO STOP. THANK GOODNESS I WAS NOT IN A HEAVY TRAFFIC AREA. I STOPPED THE CAR AND PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF. WAITING A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED. WORKED FINE, THOUGHT IS WAS A FLUKE. HOWEVER, IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN. SEEMS TO STOP ONCE CAR HAS WARMED UP OR I PULL OVER AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE RESUMING TRAVEL.

Focus ZX3 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 91,884 miles

I find it hard to believe that my cable from the foot petal to the throttle body is the only one that frayed and stuck in the last nine years. I was able to repair it myself, but it was not easy and not many are going to find it on their own. I believe it would cost around $500 for a dealer to repair it.

scary! Only happens in the cold. Put it in neutral, pressed hard on the gas pedal and it got unstuck. So far it has only gotten stuck in the non-depressed position. When it happens in drive, I press hard on the gas but the car doesn't lurch forward as you might expect.

Focus ZXE

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

When my foot is taken off the gas pedal and the car is motion, the gas pedal will not go down. It is almost as if there is something stuck behind it. I'm glad to see that it's not just my car, but sorry to see that FORD hasn't done anything about it in the form of a recall.

Accelerator jammed. When pushed all the way, it jerked to full speed. Extremely dangerous. Similar to the Toyota problem.

I am not sure what to do but the car accelarated when my daughter tried to stop. the air bag did not deploy either. You can feel the stuck pedal.

Focus 4

Accelerator pad sticks. The problem just began recently in the last 2 months during the cold weather. It does it all the time. I have not yet taken it to get repaired or inspected but I read a lot of people having the same problem with another model the ford escape and it is the same recall toyota is doing. I have been close to a couple of accidents because of this problem at dangerous intersections where my car is just idle and I cannot accelerate to get out of the way unless I push the pedal all the way down which makes the car tires burn rubber and speed off dangerously.
