Seems to be a common problem for 2006 and 2007 model Focus'. I had the battery light on for about 3 months without any problems with the car starting and no other problems at all. Had the engine light come on about 3 weeks ago. Manual says this can be due to poor quality fuel (eg. fuel contains water). I refuelled and engine light went away after about 4 days. Thought I'd fixed the problem, but engine light kept coming on for 3-5days, then light would turn off, then come back on again.
I had oil change and transmission service done yesterday & asked mechanic to check engine light & battery light. Mechanic's diagnostics showed that the alternator was not working properly. Getting it replaced today as I don't want to 'wait & see' & then have it completely fail. New alternator comes with 3yr warranty.

Was on the way to work driving along and noticed the car seemed sluggish, but I just thought I was imagining this (and maybe I was), the rear window was frosting up and so I hit the defrost which started making an audible "clicking sound", that's odd I thought!
I look at the radio (factory default) to check the time and notice nothing is on the screen, I go to turn it on and it flickers to life with the words "LOW BATTERY", I pull out my cell phone and call my favorite mechanic who tells me to take it in immediately, and whatever I do don't turn the car off. 25 minutes later I arrive, and stop (engine running) got out to tell him I was there and he asked me to pull the car around front. I get back in and put the car in reverse and it dies.
For whatever reason the alternator failed and the car ran off the battery. Nothing worked, power windows/locks, not even the blinkers. I ended up having to replace the battery which added about $100 to the repair cost.
I'm not mad, just glad I reached my destination before the car failed. I could have broken down in the middle of nowhere in the cold which would have been much worse!

I've owned two other Focus's with many more miles than this one (182K and 93K) and never had an alternator fail before.

I am amazed to read the others who have also had this issue. I'm now without a car until Monday because the repair shop is closed. My neighbor had to follow me and then my car died 1 block from the repair place and he had to push me in there. I thought it was the battery which I had just had replaced this week. They now tell me it is the alternator. After looking at these complaints - I see I'm not the only one having this problem and wonder if I too should call Ford motor company and complain.

My battery light came on and I took it to the Ford dealer and they said it was the alternator. So I went and bought the alternator but I didn't have the $187.38 to pay for labor. So I have to wait until I get the money to pay for the labor. It's the day after Christmas and I just don't have the money right now. The car has 46,486 miles and the alternator has gone bad already.

Since owning this car from 2010 to now, I have replaced the battery 2x the alternator 4x times now, replaced the pulled out the fuses for the radio, air bags, seat belt sensor, and alarm on my car and still after siting in my garage over night, won't start in the morning. The only way I can keep my starting in the morning right now is by keeping it on a battery charger over night.
I am at my wits end with this car. I came on here to see if there was any sort of recalls on this kind of problem. I can't afford to keep putting in new batteries and alternators every 6 months. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! Anyone else have similar problems? Oh I almost forgot the latch on my hatch stopped working as well. I have to fight with it to get to close sometimes.
