This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Ford dealer.
I was without my car for NINE WEEKS. I am a single mom with no credit cards. Fortunately a friend loaned me a car for the majority of the time. Worthington Ford finally came up with a loaner car the final three weeks. When I went in to pick up the loaner, they were not going to take my cash deposit. They finally relented. I was plenty peeved.

I have had nothing but problems with my 2006 ford focus. I bought it new in 2006 and it's been a nightmare. Everything possible with this car. Back in 2007 when the car had about 25k miles I took the car in numerous times because the transmission was shifting roughly during 1st and 2nd shift. Each time I was told the car was fine. At this point I was living in KS. I moved to California in June 2008 and the car did awful on the drive out. I took the car immediately into the dealer here in CA and I was told that the car was driving normal. Not even 3 months later the transmission was shift very rough so I took the car back. This time I was told they would have to 'rebuild" the transmission. I had an extended warranty so I only had to pay $100. The dealer had the car for about a week and called me to say it was done. When I left the dealer the car wouldn't hardly accelerate. I took it back and they did something to it, took them about 20 minutes and the car was fine for about a week. Then the car began shifting just like before. I called them to see what they had done the week they had it and I was told they had replaced some internal parts and adjusted the bands. Only did I find out later that my 2006 focus doesn't have bands. I think Ford just milked the extended warranty department. They told me to bring it back in so I did. Then I was told it was normal for the miles on the car. I took it to 2 different dealers and no one is willing to fix it. I think b/c I have maxed out my warranty eligibility for this repair. I am stuck with a car the transmission is awful in. In addition to the extended warranty which will be expiring soon I supposedly have a 100k powertrain warranty, but I just know Ford won't honor that either.
