Back riverside tire had a horrible cupping. Turned out it was the back shock. Replaced shocks and tires. 12 months later, same tire/shock. Replaced shock and tire. 11 months later looked at the shock, it was bad. Now I simply replace the back shocks every 10 months, and continually rotate the tires every 5-6 months.

Took it in to get an evaluation and they said that it was probably the spring that needed replacing, but wouldn't guarantee that was the problem, because everything 'looked good' or at least they didn't find any red flags with the back suspension.

My trunk is empty most of the time. It's my daily driver. I don't have a spring compressor, and have never replaced the springs in a car before. So I'm not that thrilled about doing it, nor and I thrilled at paying a mechanic to $400 replace something that they say looks perfectly fine.

I did buy an aftermarket sway bar, and hopefully that will help (?) or when installing I might find something broken I didn't see before.

I have had to replace my tires at around 35,000 to 45,000km. I took it to a dealer when it was still under warranty. They said nothing was wrong. Then after another set of tires I took it back to the dealer. They found nothing. I continue to replace tires constantly. This is an expense that I can't really afford.

There are tons of complaints on this exact issue for hundreds of Focus owners. The car also handles horribly in wet and wintery weather no matter the type or condition of the tires. Ford needs to own up and fix this. I have called Ford myself and they will do nothing for me. I am not considering another Ford vehicle. Mistakes happen but the fact that Ford won't own up to it and fix all the Focus' out there that are showing the same problems makes me not trust them. Its a dangerous issue. Seems like Ford is waiting till people die until they take this seriously.

I purchased a used 2008 Ford Focus in May 2013. It had approximately 60K miles on it. The car was very well maintained and I purchased this vehicle for my daughter to commute back and forth to college. The gas mileage was supposed to be really outstanding and Ford---a safe make. In September 2013, while drving in city traffic, I had a blowout (cupping of the tire). I replaced the tire thinking that maybe I ran over something to cause it to do so. Mind you, a new set of tires was on the car when I purchased it. Second week of October, (luckily) upon decreasing speed, another blowout.......this time with significant damage to the rear part of the car. Try $4000 worth of damage. The body shop that repaired the car advised me to file some kind of paperwork on this accident. Incidentially, same make, year, model car (a white one) was in his body shop for identical reasons. Upon reading some of these sights, I am worried that they next "accident" may be fatal or serious enough to injure myself or my daughter. Any suggestions??

  • Automatic transmission
  • 79,000 miles

I purchased a new 2008 Ford Focus SE automatic. The new tires that came on the car when I purchased it had 50K warranty. They lasted about 20K miles and had to be replaced. I was told it was because the tires weren't rotated enough. The car was purchased for my daughter to drive so I didn't know if she had rotated them as often as they were supposed to be rotated.

I bought new tires from Sears (big mistake). The tire manager talked me into Fuel Max fuel savers tires, cost me $600 for 4 new tires to be installed. They said they would save fuel and had 80k mile warranty. I asked if I needed an alignment they said no it was fine. I was then the primary driver of the car and took it to Sears for oil changes every 3K miles and tire rotation every 6K miles. After about 20K miles on the new tires I was told by Sears that the car needed an alignment because the tires were cupping and not wearing properly. Had the car aligned and after 30K miles was told at Sears it needed aligned again and that I needed new tires.

This time I bought new tires from Sam's Club, got a great deal almost half the cost of Sears and 75K mile warranty. The next day took the car to the shop to get the alignment done because they don't do that at Sam's Club and was told that the card would need to have after market kits (2) installed to fix the Ford DEFECT. The cost to me was $507.45!!!!

I went on-line before I authorized the repairs to verify what the shop was telling me. And they were right. I authorized the work but called the FORD dealership where I purchased the car and spoke to the general manager. He stated there is no history of this defect or problem being reported by other 2008 Ford Focus owners. I called another Ford dealership and got basically the same response. No recalls checked that also. I contacted Ford directly, once again they are not aware of any problems. I asked them if they ever check these things out online by googling it and they said no and that there was nothing they could do to help.

Here's what all of you should do. Go online to www.Safercar.gov You can report a vehicle complaint to the federal government and hopefully if enough of us do this Ford may have to re-imburse us for all the tires, alignments, and repairs because of their defect in their vehicles they sell. This is a safety issue, driving around on tires that wear out quickly.

I have replaced 3 sets of tires on this vehicle. The dealership told me it was my driving! I drive 40 miles a day back and forth to work on the highway! I always took my car in for service at the correct time. I had a Platinum Service plan why wouldn't I take it in? Kept complaining to the service adviser that my steering was off and that I thought I needed an alignment or rotation. The service adviser kept trying to sell me new tires. They were always having a "sale".

I am so angry! I finally took my vehicle to the local garage that always serviced my previous car. My vehicle needed new bushings and other suspension work. I had them fix it and so far so good. I would not buy another car from this dealership because they are untrustworthy and liars! The dealership is AutoFair Ford in Manchester NH

The 2008 focus has 89,000 miles on the vehicle. We've been through 4 sets of tires with each set lasting approx. 6-9 months before they require replacement due to excess wear on the inside of the rear tires. We've been told we've had alignment issues with the vehicle, so we've repeatedly gotten alignments done and we're told each time that the car actually does not have an alignment issue. We're about to see if a dealership will be able to find anything, but we're not holding out hope. We've talked to people and no one can seem to find out what exactly the problem is. Each set of tires we've replaced has had over a 60,000 mile warranty on them, the latest tires had a 90,000 mile warrant and haven't even made it to 20,000 miles and they are done.

Am a young driver, my parents wanted me to get a reliable, ironically, car- jumped into the focus- definitely didn't think that one through. Anyways, i pay for the dumb thing myself and its the biggest waste ever. There has been a squeak in my rear end 4 times now(only had the car for 2 years) supposedly due to my suspension, thank goodness for warranty as i would not pay for it 4th time around. The squeak as just returned again, im about to drive this car into the dealership that sold it to me. Im a university student i don't need this bs with my car. My tires are apparently very worn all of a sudden. they informed of this at my last maintenance. This is pathetic, i cant afford new tires and let alone a lemon of a car, i take care of it like its the best thing in the world because im worried its just gonna die one day!!!!! DO NOT RECOMMEND THE FORD FOCUS. So many better options out there.

Should definitely be a recall on the ENTIRE vehicle. brutal ford. now i get the ford jokes.

Do not buy this car if you plan on putting lots of miles on it!! What it costs you in tires and alignments will not make up for the fuel saved! I now have around 79,000 miles on my car, and need ANOTHER new set of tires--this will be my 4th new set, and I am considering getting into more debt to just be rid of the mess. The 65,000 mile tires last about 30-35,000, so I don't even get 75% of my money out them. The dealership I bought the car from started out with the excuse of "you need to rotate them more often", and you need an alignment, etc. Even if I aligned this stupid car every month it would probably still eat up tires! Finally another Ford dealership came clean and told me--the alignment issues on this vehicle are still a problem!!! This was supposed to be fixed in the 2008's, but it wasn't. So, I contacted Ford and what did they do?? Absolutely nothing. They acted like it wasn't their problem.

To me this issue is a manufacturing defect and Ford should be responsible for it, but they acted like I was the only one who had ever called to complain. I know this can't be true, but they sure like to play it that way!

I bought a Ford Focus new with a 5 speed manual transmission in 2008 have had it to 3 different dealers for tire cupping in the rear tires, they all say the same thing that I didn't rotate the tires and I didn't. There was about 17,000 miles on the car when I started to notice the problem; I have 20,000 miles on it now. I need to get new tires or quite driving it.

I have owned new and used cars over the 65 years of my life and have never had this problem with them. Ford dealers tell me that the car is to light in the rear end and that the tires bouncing is what's causing the cupping problem, that's sounds to me like the car has a weight distribution problem or shock problem not holding the tire to the road, to much weight in the front and not enough in the rear. I've had it in for an alignment check, it's within Ford specs. I've called the tire company and they say the tires are not the problem. The tire brand and size is Pirelli P205/50R16.

I would like to know if other people are having this problem. I bought this car to save money on fuel but don't think it is worth it if I have to buy new tires every 17,000 to 20,000 miles. What I would save on fuel I would have to spend on new tires. Other than the tire problem I really like the car haven't had any other problems at this point.

My front tires were wore really bad, dangerously bad on the inside of the tire. I took my car for regular oil changes and tire rotations, they never told me I had a problem. The first time I took my car for a oill change and tire rotation after my warranty was up the dealership told me I needed 2 new tires on the front, that they were completely wore down and an alignment. At the time I did not have the $400 they wanted to fix it. I took all my service papers and ranted and raved that it shouldn't take just 6,000 miles (they only service every 6,000 miles) for my tires to completely wear out & an alignment needed. After several months of complain to them, they finally agreed to fix my car and put 2 new tires on for $160, because my dad got involved.

By the time I had my next oil change, another 6,000 miles, they told me I needed 4 new tires and an alignment! After 6,000 miles, with 2 new tires & an alignment,I shouldn't need 4 new tires & another alignment! Needless to say now I have 41,000 need 2 new tires, an alignment again and now my struts are worn out!

I purchased this vehicle BRAND NEW from the dealer. I should have know i would run into problems from the start when i went back to pick up the vehicle after the weekend and someone had added 100miles to the meter, AFTER i signed the lease papers of it only having 14miles on it... (but thats a different story)

Back in August of 2009, i noticed that my rear, right side felt a little off. After a few months and seeing the damages, my rear, right tire was bald and ONLY wear out on the outside of the tire!!! The inside of that same tire, was fine and STILL had the new little rubber "spikes" as i call it, on them!!!

I reported this to the dealer and was informed that there was nothing they could do about it as all my maintenance was NOT done by them for tire rotation or oil changes, etc. (WHICH WAS 100% BULL) and they informed me that i would have to go through Perelli (the tire company) as the tires were NOT covered under my warranty.

UM HELLO< THEN WTF IS THE 36,000miles or 3YEAR WARRANTY I HAD WITH THE VEHICLE FOR???

So, i then had to go around and find a licensed Pirelli dealer in my area which was HELL to start with, only for them to tell me that the suspension was off, and they couldnt do anything about it AND the tire wouldn't be covered under tire warranty, only if the manufacture covered it, and NEITHER Ford or Pirelli said it was covered under either of their warranties, that i had to shell out $280 for ONE new tire on my car!!! That was ridiculous! It was like NO ONE wanted to be responsible!!!

NOW its under the 30,000miles thats guaranteed for tire, and i have about 13,000 on it... THE SAME DAMN THING IS HAPPENING ALL OVER AGAIN!!!

I have had it with FORD and all of its affiliates. They infuriated me, had me loose a days pay as well cost me more money than anything else. That was the only reason why i bought a new car in the first place, so i would have these headaches!!!

I REFUSE TO LET ANY FAMILY, FRIENDS OR ANYONE THAT ASKS ME ABOUT FORD PURCHASE ONE OF THEIR VEHICLES...NOTHING.

Their customer service is horrible and unsatisfactory on multiple levels INCLUDING management. STAY AWAY FROM FORD & ANY OF THEIR SERVICES!!!

ESPECIALLY FORD-FLEMINGTON, NJ DEALER ON RT 31 - They try to make up their own diagnostic charge of $105+tax EVEN when NO work is done on the vehicle AND its covered under warranty! Bunch of scam artists and after this, im reporting them to the BBB(www.bbb.com). You can count on it.

I bought this focus new in 2008..I have had the tires rotated on regular and I'm on my third set of tires. I complained to the dealer and they only sluff me off,and said that the warranty is only good for 12000 miles and they wanted $1200 to fix the problem and no grauntee that it would'nt happen again. I had a reputable tire company to inspect it amd I was told" The alignment and the suspension was off and no way can it be adjusted" I just have to replace the tires every 10,000 miles. They also told me that every Ford Focus that comes into thier shop all have the same problem.I conveyed this info to the Ford dealer and they only laughed at me.

I'm frustrated and angry. I have had several heated arugment with the dealer'. SO BE AWARE OF BUYING A FORD FOCUS AND ESPIACALLY FROM UFSTRING AUTO MALL FORD DEALER IN EAST PEORIA.,ILLINOIS. they will rip you a new ass..

Update from Jul 20, 2010: I still got no satisfaction from he dealer. I reported this experiance to the Illinois Attorneys Office in Springfield,Illinois nd also to the National Saftey Concel. I beleive this is a safty issue. I have not heard back from them yet ( maybe never will) but at least I did what had to be done. I beleive that consumer protection toward Ford Motor Co should be up held.. It is a shame that they put out defected products and the consumer has no recourse.. I will not give up on this .I'm a 78 year old senior citzen and I fell I have been taken advantage of..

Update from Jul 28, 2010: Well it has come to this... My stress and nerve racking experiance with this dealer has had me at a tissy.. This dealer has 5 or 6 different dealership with differant auto friansises. He sits there in his ivory tower making millions off of us poor class people. He should be ashamed of himself, but he just counts his money and the hell with the rest of the world. His time is coming. I'm a 78 year old senior on a fixed income with all these problems with this piece of crap called a Ford Focus. I also blame Ford Motor Co. for putting out such defected products and not backing them them up.Check the internet about these problem. I traded this problem off yesterday,so BEWARE some poor soul will having my expensive problem coming at them. I'm sorry to trade it off ,however I was at wits end I needed the pressure relived. The dealer is and I repete myself is Gary Uptring Auto Mall in East Peoris Ill. His other dealers ships are under the are Uptrings name.all them are arond the Peoria Illinois area. So again I warn anying buying a FORD FOCUS take caution and beware of the dealer you are dealing with. There are some evil people there.

Update from Aug 8, 2010: Update on this Ford Focus....... I wrote a letter to Mr.Gary Uptring personalty and sent it registered mail with a return receipt signed request .I explined my big rip off from his dealership and how dissapointed I was about his customer service. I know he got the letter because he had to sign for it.. He could care less about the little people,no return call or any correspondance of any kind. Angry? You bet I'm...............What goes around comes around.

Update from Dec 2, 2010: I trades this Focus off ,however it is still stuck in my throat about the way I was treated.on this. This Ford was a true piece of crap. I know I should move on and let it go, but It was an expensive thing and mental harassment I went through. So again I say "BEWARE OF FORD MOTOR CO> and the dealers.

First set had to be replaced at approx. 17,000--all I got from the dealership was excuses--you didn't rotate them often enough, they're factory tires, you should have got an alignment sooner. An alignment? After 17,000 miles? I drive interstate about 100 round trip 5 days a week to work. It's not like I'm off-roading this thing! Furious after handing over $500 for the tires and the alignment, the service mgr. finally tells me the Focus is notorious for eating tires. Supposedly they fixed this issue with the 2008 model--liars, they didn't fix it. So for the last 30,000 miles I have faithly rotated at every oil change, and guess what? It didn't do much good. My 65,000 mile Pirellis got a whopping 30,000 out of them. I bought this car to save money on fuel, but what good does it do me if I have to put a new set of tires on it every 6-8 mos.? Shouldn't this issue be considered a manufacturer's defect? I get sooo furious every time I even think about it!!
