How can a American car manufacturer produce a car that doesn't defrost the drivers side windshield completely? I have a diamond shaped patch of ice right in front of my face which I am forced to look to the side of to see the road completely. At the same time the side window vents (located on either side of the dash) pour our searing hot air to clear the side windows. No I have not taken this to the dealer because I lack the time / money to spend in this tight time of the year. THIS CAR WAS A RECENT PURCHASE. THAT I AM REGRETTING. I have never seen a car in my 50 years of driving that produced such poor results on clearing a simple windshield. For the record it was 25 F and heavy snow. New wipers had just been installed prior to this trip. Three people were in the car at the time. The blower was on High as well as the Temp to Max. I look forward to anyone's comments on this sad state of affairs.

The car is a typical Ford with rattles and awkward transmission moments. I have owned this car for 6 years and recently started driving it full time. The defrost makes a triangle fog or ice pattern within 2 minutes of driving in cold weather. I felt over the fogged area and did not feel any air from the defrost. I felt the defrost directly over the vents and noted it was in three sections. The middle and the sides did not overlap and left a gap in the middle, thus the triangle shape that was caused by the gap in air coverage. The gap that fogs over is right where the driver looks out and it quite a hazard. I guess I have to look at it getting fixed, but it appears most likely to be a bad design. I will note the AC had to be completely replaced not long before I noticed this problem early last cold season. I have had the coolant replaced to try to fix the problem, no help. I spoke to a car guy who said that kind of problem may take a long time to diagnose. I used to leave the defrost on high at max temp to take away the fog, but today at 8 degrees it did not help.
