rear door latch on drivers side will not stay closed

this happened to my wife at a costco parking lot and she had to get some rope from costco to tie the door closed to get home. I took it to my home mechanic and he took it apart and sprayed it with lube and banged on it until it let go and started to work again and he told me to contact Ford so I will do that later this week to see if they will fix this problem.
