Focus

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

Took it in many times over several years and it was never resolved until multiple clutch replacements, a computer reset, leaking damage fixed, etc. Finally it works and a new issue emerges - see next complaint. No matter what you do - do not buy a 2012 Ford Focus.

Update from Nov 28, 2017: Now that I have surpassed the 150k extended warranty on the recall - at 154k I have total transmission failure and they want $3k to fix it - even if I did want to fix it - they still want several more $k to fix the steering - no thanks.

Focus ES 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

I have had this problem fixed once - last month. I bought it in august of 2015 and the car slips and shudders going up hills. I can't get enough power to go up a hill. and, the car revs low so that it almost stalls.

The problem is back already after waiting for two days while it was fixed. I am furious, as my warranty is up in August. I still have money to pay back on it. I was sold a lemon and Enterprise car sales knew it. The air conditioning already went last week as the coils were corroded which is common on these cars. I am sick of complaining. What is the solution.

Focus 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

This is the second time this has happened. The part has been ordered for a year but it only come in a piece at a time. SO while one piece gets fixed another is damaged. While I am waiting for this to be fixed, there is another recall that can't be fixed until this one is done...SO now the transmission is acting up, but I can't get that fixed until the clutch is done. How much damage is this going to cause? I am loosing power which caused the wreck. Now I am afraid to let loves ride with me for fear of their safety. While driving I ran over a pothole and my finder fell off the dealer glued and taped it on. Now if there is rain outside, no need to run to the car because it is raining in there as well....WHEN will my car be fixed or put out of its misery....This is the second FORD I have had NO MORE FORDS...

Focus SE

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

I already had the dealership replace the clutch after they previously claim they adjusted prior. Now I have the same problem again. My car shutters and shakes badly upon acceleration. Hesitates and no power after stopping. This was my very first purchase of a new car, wanting to have something reliable since I do slot of driving for my job. I am very disappointed in this model and not sure what to do with it. Very positive I will never buy Ford again.

Focus SE 2.0L 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,000 miles

I have a Ford Focus 2012 SE. It has around 58K miles on it. For sometime it has been giving me jerks when I would start the car. I went to a dealership (FORD - Sunnyvale, CA) and they said this is a known issue for 2011-2012 Ford Focus and Fiesta and would repair it at no cost.

3-4 days later they tell me that the pair parts would take 6-8 weeks to come with no guarantee. My concern is the following -

Ford has sold me a car with crappy clutch and transmission. They try to do SILENT recalls so as not to get bad name but not do a good job when it comes to handling customers. I told the dealers that I am not going to drive this vehicle for 6-8 weeks till you get the parts. Whats the guarantee that the part won't fail or damage other parts next to it. Its as simple as that.

Given that my car is in garage because of FORD'S MISTAKE and not mine, why should I as a customer suffer. So I give them 2 options -

1. Give me a loaner car until you can fix the sh*t you got for me in the car. For this I get VERY RUDE NO. Maybe this gigantic motor company doesn't have enough money to give loaners to customers that are in trouble because of FORD's poor engineering.

2. I say, give me a written assurance that if I drive and some other part gets damaged because of this reason in next 6-8 weeks, you would take care of the entire repair. (That's the least they should do). Guess what do I get. NO .

Not only FORD makes crappy transmission and requires so frequent recalls, they car PATHETIC customer service. The staff was very rude and much more annoyed that I was for complaining to them, than I was.

I demand that Ford fixes my car ASAP, or attest give me a loaner so I feel safe to drive on freeways. This attitude is absolutely absurd on the company and dealership's part (FORD AND LINCOLN (SUNNYVALE, CA))

Focus

  • CVT transmission
  • 87,000 miles

I purchased this car from Drive Time in Fayetteville NC from the test drive I noticed this slippage and I brought it to the sales Representative attention. she then asked the Service Tech about the problem and he states " oh, that's just how those flex fuel Ford cars run, there's nothing wrong with it"

I consistently was having this problem so I let my service tech drive the car and this is when he told me from the jump start, that this car is not suppose to drive like this. Its having some transmission issues. Sure enough its the CVT issue. Fortunately for me its was under a recall order for Ford. Although I am still waiting on back order parts to come in since March 22, 2015 but hopefully my vehicle will be fixed some time soon or I'll be back very upset.

clutch slippage

When my Ford Focus 2012 was still brand new I felt that the vehicle is not normal hearing a clicking noise when shifting & it has a problem with the transmission & when I took the vehicle to our dealer in Oman for the first service I raised a complaint & the answer when I collected the vehicle was that it's normal telling me that it's a manual automated transmission, so I said OK & take off. Then before the second service the issue start growing up & instead of just hearing clicking noise while shifting it started jerking so I raised the complaint again on the second service this time they did what is called programming. I felt there is an improvement but not for long time.

At 48000KM I noticed clutch slippage in first, third, & fifth gear, especially on the hills. This time I had to keep the vehicle for two day with the dealer ending up with clutch replacement & it became normal till 98000KM & started the clutch slippage again with the same gears, first, third, & fifth. When I took the vehicle to the dealer they simply answered that it's out of warranty & I have to pay for fixing the problem. After thinking whether I should repair the vehicle or not I decided to not & drive the vehicle to see where are we going to end up. Last week I ended up parking the vehicle at home because it's not reversing, it jumps the gears from the first to the third & from the third to the fifth after it reaches the fifth gear you loose the acceleration. It's not accelerating at all, not engaging the second & fourth gears. The vehicle now crossed 112000KM so who ever has the transmission problem, probably all the owners, they should expect ending up parking the vehicle at home.
