Focus S 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,000 miles

Purchased this vehicle new. Had 2 recalls...1) Wiper motor issue and 2) Tranny 6 speed auto, both repaired before warranty out and Tranny warranty extended ro 100,000 as gesture of good will by Ford Motor.

I am retired now and do not have the funds to continuously take the car back for repairs more than once. Ford should know about this, because I have seen many complaints about this issue here and on other forums, but no solid/known fix from Ford. Everything points towards the contact mechanism engaged by the key. Sometimes it will take 3 to 4 turn key tries before the engine starts after releasing the key. Today (07/28/2015) I literally tried to start the car 31 times and then it started. Going some place and parking is a crap-shoot. What is the best probable fix before I take it in? Looking for guidance.

Update from Aug 11, 2015: Vehicle was left at dealership. Took 3 full days. I have had the car back about a week now with no problems. Based upon the report I received it was the TCM (Transmission Control Module). They replaced this part and the seal, under warranty as it was the Tranny on original recall before 60,000 miles hit and as a courtesy Ford extended my drive train warranty to 100,000. They also reprogrammed the computer. I was pleased with the service from Ford.

Out of nowhere it wouldn't start, codes called it a key FOB problem. When that didn't solve the problem a lengthy deeper computer diagnostic showed it as a TCM (transmission control module) problem. Once it was replaced then the "KEY fob battery low" - replaced the battery in ALL and then Ford tried to reprogram and the CAR/FOB wouldn't program. Dealership had to do a "deep" diagnostic to find out the problem. They did it and reprogrammed all 3 FOB's (2 old (came with car) 1 brand new from dealership)

All good for 1 week then, out of the blue car wouldn't start. Took it to my regular mechanic who put it on computer and it showed no codes. Battery was low from trying to start it. Jumped it and the car started regularly. Until the next AM when again it wouldn't start

Brought back to Carmax under warranty and extended warranty, SO far,.. new battery.

Focus SE 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission

I drive 50 miles one way to ,five days a week, so round trip is 100 miles per day. Before I could stop at the store or gas station or any where with no concerns, but now I'm scared, I'm worried. Will my car start?

January 15 2015 I go grocery shopping and I'm talking about items about to fall out of the basket type of shopping, I load up the car and get inside put the key in the ignition and guess what the car want start so I try turning the key again and again and again the lights an every thing else seem to be fine except my car will not start now I'm freaking out so I call my husband, he pops the hood and he's standing there scratching his head so I get out and look. Holly hell you've got to have a Master's Degree in Quantum Mechanics too work under the hood my husband is good shade tree wise but this is crazy. Now I ended up waiting 30 minutes and I try again and it started so I get the car home. 13 times now this type of problem has happen to me. I'll be at the gas station, will not start, or at the movies, will not start, or at the store, will not start I'm scared to take the car out. I called FORD DEALERSHIP they tell me it's going to cost me about $100.00 to hook it up for a diagnostic and if I need a new Chip key that's another $200.00 and if the car need repairs that's going to cost me more $$$$. It comes down to the fact that we just can't really on any of the automakers. So what's next now I have to right a column about the transmission slippage and the driver side window not working now, my window stopped working about two weeks ago at least it was up

P.S. After I park the car, and if I let it set for about 30 minutes it will start most of the time but if you turn it on and then turn it off it's a 50% chance that it will not start. It seems like it needs to cool down or something like that and then it will start. When it does start it happens that split second when the key is coming back. Well I hope this helps. I did read that a California County Court Judge approved a Class action lawsuit against Ford Automotive about the ignition problems we need to do that here in South Carolina.

Focus SEL

When I put the key in the ignition and turn it on nothing happens, when I release the key the car starts. If I put the key to the on position and wait a couple of seconds then turn to start the car will start. If anyone knows the solution to this problem please contact me at Boilertech55@yahoo.com. Is there a recall on this problem as yet?
