Focus ES 2.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 95,080 miles

I initially thought this problem was caused by my daughter just being negligent and running out of gas. However, after encountering this problem myself, I understand her frustration. The fuel gauge will say that the car has 70-80 miles to empty, but that is not correct. She as run out of gas 4 times now, once coming back from Lubbock Texas. That time it said she had 70 miles to empty but it left her stranded on the side of the highway. Now there is a strong gas odor in the car, so bad that it gives her headache.

After reading multiple forums regarding this issue, it appears this is a common problem with this vehicle but one that Ford won't do a recall for, forcing the customer to pay out of pocket for the repair. When I bought the car, it was used and I bought the extended warranty to give me and my daughter the peace of mind of hopefully not having to pay expensive maintenance bills.

We plan to take the car to the dealer, in the next few days, to get it assessed. Hopefully the extended warranty will cover the expense, but I'm not holding my breath.

Focus SEL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,950 miles

According to service guy, this causes the fuel tank to deform at the bottom. If it is 1 inch deformed, the tank and fuel pump will need to be replaced, costing about $3000.

This should have been a recall item. Made the mistake of giving Ford a chance buying this car. Never again.

Focus Tiatinum 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 77,703 miles

I have read on Ford Focus Forums, and now here, there is a serious problem with the fuel system! This morning, I start my car and I see the fuel gauge jumps straight to full!!! I drove the car back and forth two days in a row back and forth to work, (35 Miles) so that is 140 miles!!! I should have been at LEAST 3/4 tank. Drove the rest of the day and still when I start my car the indicator goes straight to full!!!!! I didn't reset my trip odometer like I usually do and threw in a couple more gallons of gas due to me thinking I'm going to get stranded! I have not taken this to manufacture due to I have had several recalls, and a Cruise Control Issue from the start. I am hoping to let people know this really upsets me, I am currently looking for a new car. Will be trading this thing in, and its sad because I do like the car features, and style, the car just it don't hold up. The car is only 4 years old and I have spent prolly 6 months worth of repairs (factory repairs thankfully) I'm tired of this and will be trading it in and never buying a Ford again.
