In August 2012 I went to close my drivers door and it would not latch closed. The safety latch had broken in the open position and my door would not close at all. I called the Ford dealer and they replaced the latch under the warranty. Then on February 27 2016 my daughter went to close the front passenger door, and the door would not latch shut. I had to tie the door closed with ropes to hold the door closed. Both times the car was parked. But again it was the door safety latch that failed and broke in the open position. 50% of the door latches on this car have now failed. I know there's an investigation ongoing about the door latches from Ford, and that my car is not part of the recall. Today, March 1 2016 Ford diagnosed the problem as a faulty door latch. They have yet to decided if they will cover the cost of the replacement part and labor. It's my personal belief that the remaining 2 latches on the rear doors will fail in time. It's my belief that Ford needs to replace all 4 safety door latches.

Feb 29, 2016 was driving to work on freeway when I noticed driver door was not closed. I attempted to close door but it would not stay shut. I exit the freeway and repeatedly attempting to close the door. This has never happened to me before. I was afraid of what possibly could have happened. Not to me but to my girlfriend who is 5 months pregnant with our child. It is the car we bought for her but today I decided to leave her my truck. "better me then her" is what I was thinking. I immediately searched google to see what it can possibly be when I came across the recall Ford was having. I didn't see Ford Focus on there and was thinking "why the hell not" it seems to be the same problem. I came across forums of other have the same horrible experience. I also read of it happening to a women in Arizona who had her cost covered by Ford. I called my dealer where we purchased the vehicle and was advised that the Focus is not covered. I was given a call later during the day with an price of $682.56 to have it fixed. I called a 1-800-392-3673 to speak with Ford and express my concern and the terrifying experience of my drive to work. All I was told I can do is hold on to my receipt in case it is recalled in the future. I asked about the women in Arizona who had the same experience and why was her cost covered and not any of these other people. I was told hers was probably different. I was speechless after that. As our call came to an end all I could think about was all these complaints about door latches not closing and the accidents that can possibly happen at any given time without warning. No one is taking responsibility for the defected latches. Ford is no taking responsibility for the defected latches. How can they recall approx. 400,000 other models and not realize maybe the same thing is happening to the Focus.

The first time was going down 93 in boston area with my family the car went into transmission failure why I was in far left lane the car wouldnt go over 20 and I had to cross over to the far left lane to treach the breakdown lane. Luckily my family was not in accident because it could've have been far worse. It did the same thing a second time when I was going down 293 area going to a doctor appointment. This may end up killing my family if it doesn't get recalled and fix. We don't have extra money to be repairing it ourself every time it decides to do this.

Three of my 4 door latches stopped functioning completely. They did not work whether the car was stationary, in motion, driving, or turning. We had to tie the door handles to each other from the inside to keep them from flying open while driving. When you pushed them shut from the outside, they would bounce back open. This also caused constant warning lights/sounds from the dash. Ford stated there was a recall, but ours were not covered because my 4 door latches were packaged as a 4 pack whereas the serial numbers for the recalled latches were sold in individual packaging. So therefore, I was not covered due to a loop hole. The doors not shutting properly (ever) caused water to leak in and cause other problems such as the window motor shorting out. I reached out to corporate and customer service and was told they would not pay for the repairs. I paid for the repairs out of pocket because I had to.

Front driver side door will not consistently latch closed. Car was parked when I first noticed the door was ajar. Had to drive with the door immobilized by speaker wire and holding it with my hand until I had time to repeatedly close it in hope of it staying shut. After 45 minutes, it stayed shut until the few times I accidentally opened it without thinking which would result in similar adventures in getting it to close. Speaking to the dealership, they knew exactly what part I needed without much explaining of the problem and I was told my extended warranty would not cover it.

Door latches faulty, as in regards to NHTSA action number PE16001. Left front door latch failed, left rear door latch failed about two weeks later. Vehicle was parked in both instances. Doors would not close. Had to tie shut to drive to dealer for replacement of latches. At time of second incident, service manager sent me an email stating that Ford was now going to be replacing all door latches on this model when one failed. However, this was not done on my vehicle.

I purchased my car in June 2012. I have had to replace the clutch three times due to issues. I have had to have the roof liner reinstalled as it had come loose. Now, only a month after the $700 repair for the roof, I am now told to pay $950 to repair my brake booster which as broken and messed up the primary shaft. My car has less than 30,000 miles on it and is only 3.5 years old, yet seems to be falling apart now that it is out of warranty. I asked if I had done anything to cause the brake booster to fail, and was told "no, it is just a mechanical failure, " that I have to pay for because it is out of warranty. I was also told that there was no way that the mechanics could have seen the issue, even though it mysteriously started less than 2 weeks after I had it in the shop for over a week. After getting the roof liner and clutch reinstalled I was told that they had also updated all of the software in my car. A little over a week later the check engine light came on as I was stopped at a red light. I thought it was a software glitch as the light turned off when I started driving again. It happened once more about a week or so later, but it was at the same stoplight, so I thought it may be the particular angle of the car at that light or something, but resolved to take it in if it happened again. I was gone for 2 weeks for christmas break, then when I came back the low brake fluid light came on every time I was stopped for more than 30 seconds. I stopped driving my car until I could get it into the shop. So, with less than a month of driving my car since it was last in the shop, apparently $950 in damage was done that, while not my fault "could not have been avoided" and is something I have to pay for if I want my car to be safe to drive.

For the third time in six months, my car will not start. It was fortunately parked in my garage. There is power. The onboard computer has erased itself each time. Each time, I've been told its a transmission problem, and that its covered by warranty. It's gotten to the point where I don't even trust my car to drive it anymore.

Car jumps from 2000 RPM to 7000 RPM immediately when wanting to go from 35 mph to 45 mph after being sluggish and almost hit another vehicle. At highway speed of 65, the car's power becomes so low it only goes 40 mph and had to put hazard lights on and get off highway. Automatic transmission but have to put foot on brake and other foot on gas in city traffic on hill or it slides back to almost hit vehicle behind me. Steering got so tight multiple times at 45 mph and all lights on panel came on and car stalled in middle of a major intersection and had to call police to ensure nobody hit my vehicle and direct other traffic. Car shudders and vibrates and nothing wrong with tires, rims, brakes and alignment.

On 10/15/15 my car stalled and completely pulled back, died down to almost a halt then kicked into gear again, like a pull and let go motion. Out of nowhere, this gave me a scare since I was driving and could have been rear ended because of this complete stall in the middle of the road on N.E. 163rd street North miami beach towards biscayne blvd. Engine light went on and a screen message showed up asking me to service transmission now! I have had to park car until I figure what to do? this car has turned out to be a problem for me, first with the back driver side door latch where door just flew open while driving, (that's a different claim I have placed with NHTSA). I can't afford to keep fixing these problems appearing to this Ford Focus. Radio also went dead with a super loud disrupting pop sound and loud static electrical noises which could not be controlled by lowering volume or turning off radio, this loud pop sound startled me also while driving on turnpike from davie towards North miami beach. Would like to get Ford motor to recognize that my Ford Focus 2012 is a lemon, if not the right term then it's a product of shoddy parts used to construct this car.

Ever since I have owned this car since May 2012 it has shuddered when driving, stalled while driving, and shakes and does not increase speed when the accelerator is stepped on. The car now does not even start when it is turned on, despite the battery being good. Car was towed into dealership several times and they supposedly fixed it. Did several repairs to it but to this date it still shudders and stalls while driving. The latest repair they did was to fix the alternator...we will see....have come to the conclusion this model has several defects and would term it as a lemon. It barely has 60,000 miles on it and a car this new should not be having these issues as they are safety issues and I fear for me and my childrens lives and safety as this car does not function safely and stalls when we are driving! when I expressed my concerns to Ford over these issues they took no action except to tape record my complaints...they do not care about these safey issues....the car has been in the dealership service center four times in the last four months....the last repair bill cost me $650....but I have no faith that they (Ford) have fixed the problems.....I am fearful to drive this car but I am a single mother and cannot afford to trade the car in for another as the Ford sales person told me no bank would loan me money on another car as I owed too much on this lemon that Ford has sold me....Ford was of no help and does not care....I told them that it would take someone dying in a car crash from these defects in order for Ford to do something about these issues.....these issues happen while the car is in motion and when it is sitting still...the car will not start and has to be towed into the repair shop...

While pulling out of a drive thur my car suddenly became very hard to turn and a message appeared on the dash stating "steering assist malfunction". I was able to turn off the car and restart and the problem seemed to be okay. Now I am worried that this will happen again but in a more dangerous situation. There are many other complaints I have read about and it's not if it happens again it's when. Also tonight I experienced my rear right side door is not able to close at all. Which I have read numerous complaints about both of these safety concerns. That is a huge safety hazard, I am very thankful that I realized this before driving away with my daughter in the back seat. I will never buy another Ford again!!!!
