Focus 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 58,000 miles

Was in New Jersey (I'm from Michigan) heading into New York City when engine RPMs revved up to 5-6 thousand. I let off to slow down under 55. (Which is not cool when you're on that road and they are ALL going 95 minimum). As long as I kept it between 45 and 55 it was okay. Took it to Ford Dealership in Nacong, NJ and after investigating it, they replaced the PCM. Luckily my Extended Warranty was 2 weeks out from expiring (instead of 2 weeks after like usual) it was covered. Car only has 58000 miles on it. Time to get rid of it.

Focus SE 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 14,000 miles

I purchased this 2014 ford focus se June 2016. I paid cash for the car, due to it having a rebuilt title. It has 14,650 miles on the car. I've contacted Ford several times due to the transmission problems and recalls I've read about online, It's nothing but a big headache with transmission issues.....when I run the AC, the car hesitates when stopped and jerks. While driving the RPM will go way higher than it's suppose to. I hate this!!!! Ford told me that since the title on my car is "Branded", that the warranty I should still have on the car was VOIDED to when the previous owner had a wreck in the car. This should not interfere with recalls and problems Ford's been having with the transmissions in these cars!!! Can anyone please let me know if there's anything I can do about this??!!

Focus LS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,776 miles

This problem was "fixed" 4/15/2016. New clutch and input shaft seals. Told to drive 500-700 miles to have computer/transmission relearn driving habits. Reached the 700 mile milestone(still alive) but scared to drive this car. STILL-- It has no acceleration-especially on any type of hill. When starting from a stop IT SOMETIMES DOES NOT GO!! The car sounds like a boat traveling through water. When it does start to more your head is slammed into the headrest. NO GRADUAL ACCELERATION. THE TRANSMISSION IS ALWAYS WINDING OUT. CALLING DEALER AGAIN TOMORROW.

Update from Jun 22, 2016: Wiring recall out there that seems to solve problem. Acceleration message no getting to computer module for transmission. Two days ago got "fixed". Drives like new. We will see.

Focus 5 Door Hatchback SE 2.0L I4 Gdi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,546 miles

Kinda thought the gear selection getting out of PARK was stiff when first purchased. Thought car position on incline was a factor, and brushed it off. Noticed it hard to move on and off, and then particularly so recently. This is not the only issue related to transmission. Will list other symptoms.

Focus SEL 2.0L Litre

  • Automatic transmission
  • 18,967 miles

I noticed an issue of transmission hesitation the 1st day (June, 2012) when I put my car in reverse down my driveway...it was not smooth...it jerked. I drove to work in a 3 lane boulevard with traffic lights along the way at various intersections. When I would accelerate from the start the car moved, but the automatic shift from the first gear to the second gear was not smooth and the car "shuddered" for a few moments until the transmission would finally engage smoothly.

I reported this to the dealer and made an appointment with my service advisor in July of 2013. They advised that the transmission controller was "reprogrammed" and this should fix the problem. My 2014 Focus intermittently kept exhibiting this defect. I took it in 2 additional times without any satisfactory fix.

The third time I took it for this issue the mechanic drove it to his home to see if he could get the trans to shudder. The next day the dealer service manager, the regional Ford service manager took my car and drove it with a computer hooked up to see if they could experience the "shuttering"...they all advised my car was working to Ford Specifications and nothing more could be done.

I traded this 2012 Focus in and bought a 2014 Fusion. I did not wish to sell this car to a private buyer and pass along such a bad transmission to an unsuspecting person and therefore not able to obtain fair market value for my car. About 6 weeks after my trade in I received a recall notice. I was very unhappy about this whole situation and believed I was wronged by Ford Motor Company.

Focus ES 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

refuses to downshift properly after dealership reset

OK, so the dealership finally looks at my car and tells me the clutches in the transmission need replaced that it meets the specs decided by FORD about HOW BAD THE CLUTCHES HAVE TO BE BEFORE BEING REPLACED!!!!! Even though I have told them of the near crashes these issues have caused since I bought the car. They tell me that they have re-calibrated the clutches via computer and that the car is safe to drive, call back in SEPTEMBER - 3 months later.... to see if the parts are in. Next day, my car does not downshift as I'm trying to stop for a car turning in front of me from my lane. He follows all the rules, blinker in plenty of time, neither of us were speeding (35 MPH road). I started braking and my car wouldn't down shift. I felt like I had to put my foot through the floor board to stop, and I still only managed to stop my car about a foot from his bumper. It still felt like it was trying to accelerate. Scared me breathless. Couple of things that make this story scarier to me.. I know the guy I almost hit, and his tag is personalized to say AR-15. Normally a nice guy, but when you know you're in the wrong and he has a large gun collection.... Not a happy thought, but thankfully the brakes are great.
