I was driving on the freeway approaching a curve at about 45mph when I first experienced the wheel locking up. As I was trying to cut the wheel to the right, the steering wouldn't allow me to turn any further. Upon noticing this I immediately hit my breaks to avoid slamming into the median and hit the hazards lights to avoid have a rear end collision with the many cars driving behind me. Extremely terrifying experience and thankfully I avoided collision by acting fast, however someone else may not be as quick to avoid a potentially fatal event. Someone could have died, I could have died by losing the ability to control my steering. I thank god that total steering loss didn't happen while I was doing 60mph, I can only imagine how differently this could've ended. No lights or warnings popped up while that happened until I got off at my exit. Maybe about 3 miles later a warning stating "steering fault" popped up disappeared and then "total steering loss" appears across the dashboard. This was once I was in a residential area to stop the car while I am going down the road at 25mph. This left me unable to make any turns so I had to come to a complete stop. I have since gotten the car towed and now have to wait to get the car repaired. The power steering on the vehicle is out and since I have called the dealership, they've said the diagnostic fee alone is $190. I have yet to find out how much the parts and repair costs will be and I'm shocked that there has not been a recall including the 2015 Ford Focus for steering if they recalled the 2014 models for this same issue. This is a FATAL accident waiting to happen and needs to be recalled ASAP.

I have discovered this is a very common problem and should be recalled immediately. I bought this ford focus with 50k miles on it and the electrical power steering unit went out within 4 months. i have been driving it this way for 7 months. due to lack of grease or perhaps even lack of an engineered gasket, I believe water has gotten into my system and fried the electronics. this seems to be the most common problem with these electric power steering racks. i see several other models of this car recalled for this problem, why not mine? I'm already overpaying I shouldn't have to pay $1600 to fix this issue. I believe an immediate recall is in order based on how many thousands of people have the same problem as me and are out here driving without power steering.

I own a 2015 Ford Focus with 69,071 miles - low mileage. It's driven lightly. A couple of months ago, I was driving when suddenly the power steering went out and was extremely difficult to drive and manuever the vehicle. I went to the local dealership to schedule repairs and their computers were out so I couldn't even make an appt. So, I called Ford Motor Company about the power steering going out suddenly on my vehicle while driving to determine if my 2015 Ford Focus was covered for this repair in their current Ford Focus power steering recalls after finding thousands of cases reported for the exact same thing on 2010 - 2015 Ford Focus vehicles. I discovered that my vehicle is not included in the recalls. This is a very dangerous issue that Ford should take responsibility for the safety of their consumers and families who drive their products. There are 12 or more other active recalls for this vehicle presently - Side door latch replacement #20S15 where the doors can suddenly open while driving and fuel tank deformation and may crack in a crash # 15C11 for my vehicle. I took my vehicle to the local Ford dealership today to have the other 2 recalls completed and diagnose the power steering, only to be quoted $3014 for their VERY COMMON known power steering issue. They also did not complete the recall work when this was requested as a priority, so I am still driving around in this dangerous vehicle. Ford recalled 487,301+ 2015 Ford Fusions cars for this very same power steering issue. The recall # is 15S14. NHTSA Campaign #15V250000. Another power steering recall for 2015 Ford Fusion is #19S26 affecting 116,160+ vehicles NHTSA Campaign # 19V632000. Approximately 300,170 Ford Fusions were made in 2015 - how can only some be covered when this is such a common known issue? $3014 to repair the KNOWN issue is not acceptable and dangerous.

UNKNOWN. Power steering assist fault message appeared. After driving the car on the road and stopping to fuel up and turning off the car the error message appeared. The power steering was not working making the steering wheel hard to turn. No warnings or errors prior and as well no error codes found via OBD reader. Safety was put at risk as I was not able to turn the wheel when trying to take off after stopping. Several people have complained online already about this same issue.

My vehicle began making loud rubbing noises when turning and then in addition, progressed to having trouble steering. I took it to a shop that advised me that I needed a new rack and pinion steering system. I took the vehicle home and when I went to get return to the garage to have it replaced, the car would not turn at all except with extreme force; I had to have it towed. I had to pay for an entire new rack and pinion steering (and labor) and for the front end to be aligned after. I checked and even though there are numerous complaints, there is no recall.

I was driving home from work when I got a "steering fault" notification, followed by very limited control over my vehicle's steering system. I was going between 55-65 miles, as I was on an expressway, and came very close to colliding with other vehicles on multiple occasions. I was able to make it home and then when I went to drive it to the shop for repairs, I received the "steering loss" notification and I could no longer move my vehicle. There are quite a few noted complaints about Ford's power steering assist failing with the Focus and many other models.

I started to notice a rubbing sound when I would turn the steering wheel. I also noticed when I turned the wheel to the right, there was a slight hesitating resistance. A week later, I was going down the highway about 70 mph, when a warning message popped up -??power steering fault-??. At that moment, the steering completely lost power and it was difficult to steer. Going at that speed on a busy highway was very dangerous. Without any power steering, in heavy traffic, I had to manually steer my way from the speed lane to the right outer lane to take the exit. I had to cancel mission, turn around and go back home, hoping to get back safely. I was put at risk and so were other folks on the road, that day. I haven't taken my car for repair yet.

The steering assist on on our 2015 Ford Focus failed at 35,000 miles as I was backing out of the driveway. The steering fault was indicated on the dashboard and the car became very difficult to steer. Had I been driving on the street or expressway this very well could have resulted in a serious or even fatal accident. I checked with the dealer to see if a Ford safety recall had been issued. There was no safety recall on this year Focus. Sure seems like Ford should issue a safety recall regarding this issue since there is one for the 2014 Ford Focus and other Ford cars. It is the same steering assist unit. The car was undrivable, of course, and the local authorized Ford dealer charged me $2,470 to replace the steering gear. It was in the shop for more than a week. My wife and I are retired on a fixed income and an unexpected $2,470 expense is devastating to us. We bought this car hoping to keep it forever and save money along the way. After dealing with the defective transmission, sync that doesn't, radio and brake repairs we see now this was a big mistake. My grandfather built Model Ts in Detroit and both of my parents were Ford employees in Dearborn their entire adult life. We have always been a Ford family. I will never buy another Ford.

I was sold a 2015 Ford Focus SE sedan from a Ford dealership. I didn't know about the on going lawsuit. Tell the year after when the transmission started to act up. Now as of 11/14/20 the steering assit which is electric stop working in mid drive. And it hard to steer the car. After checking the web about this I found out there was a massive recall on the Focus's for the steering assit. The dealer service guy is telling me there was no recall. I found on line tonight that the statue of limitations states that the recall stays open for eight years. It's only been 5 yrs. Since the call was built. The service guys want $2,200 the replace the steering assit. I don't get that much on disability. Please please help me.

After driving home from visiting extended family, my steering wheel became increasingly sticky, causing it to be slightly jerky whilst attempting to maintain a straight path. My vehicle was still in motion when I initially discovered the difficulty. No indication lights came on. As the weeks passed by, it would go in and out of being sticky and then back to normal steering while driving. One night on my return trip home from work, turning the steering wheel became increasingly difficult. An information light came on explaining that something was wrong with steering and to have it serviced as soon as possible. This appeared while the car was in motion. When my grandfather went to go check it out and drive it around the neighbourhood to see what was wrong, the steering wheel completely locked up and a warning notification appeared saying the power steering was lost, service immediately. The car was parked at home, thankfully. But I had to have my car towed from my home and am currently working on financing a $2900 repair to replace my entire steering rack/gear.
