I purchased a 2016 Ford Focus. I notice that on the bottom of the doors that there is an engineering flaw, it seems to be with the flange as it is open to the elements and not sealed. It is not flush and there is an open gap on the bottom of all doors and because the doors are not sealed and it is left open to water getting in and will inevitably cause premature rusting and corrosion.

I have brought this issue up at the dealer and they pretty much ignored the issue basically saying that is how they were made. This needs to be fixed and not overlooked. Someone at the dealership who works there also made a comment there is the same problem with the Fiesta’s. From my research this Focus issue has been going on for several years (among other known problems).

In comparison to other cars, some other Fords included, there is no open gap flange for water to get in at the bottom of the door panels. This is definitely a design flaw. I have noticed other Ford Focus’ on the road that have premature bottom door rusting and corrosion. I am bewildered that this was not caught by engineering before manufacturing the cars. Why did they continue to manufacture cars with this huge potential problem?

If it was a potential known flaw in design, why did they continue with this design? This is unacceptable and blatant on Ford's part.
