The contact owns a 2016 Ford Focus. The contact stated the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 18V735000 (fuel system, gasoline). After the repair was performed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the fuel tank was deformed from excessive vacuum pressure inside the fuel tank. The contact was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Team Ford Lincoln (5445 drexel rd, las vegas, nv 89130, (702) 997-8445) was contacted and informed the contact that the software update was previously performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
