The car has an automatic transmission when accelerating and the car attempts to shifft from 1st gear to 2nd gear there is a shutter feeling in the transmission and sometimes a grinding sound, especially when turning while accelerating. I have taken it to hertrich Ford in easton, md twice now and both times they say it is "within specs". they also say they reprogrammed something. The car has 29.000 miles on it. Now I'm hearing what sounds like a wheel bearing thumping in the driver's side front wheel.

Purchased the vehicle new with only 21 miles on it, brand new automatic transmission within 8mnths I had to have the clutch replaced because it was shuddering and hesitating on acceleration. By November I was having the same issue again and the 3rd clutch was put in, now again just 5 mnths later the car is getting its 4th clutch. Repeat issue and no resolution. Other than let them keep putting clutches in until my warranty dies.

When driving, in between shifts the rpms will rise while the gas pedal is released and the clutch pedal is engaged. Creating a "stuck" gas pedal creating the drivers to either shift and risk more tear to their clutch, or wait to release the clutch till the engine rpms finally drop for a smooth shift. The Ford dealerships say this is normal, but engine rpms should not increase while the clutch is engaged and the gas pedal is released. This happens at all times, inching forward to pull into a garage, highway speeds or city speeds. I have a 2017 Focus St ST2 with 11,700 miles.

On 3/21/19 while driving my vehicle, the front passenger door opened. The door just popped open, I was driving in an intersection of a busy street and about to make a turn when this occurred. It was terrifying and I barely missed an accident. Luckily I was right by a gas station when this happened and I had the car towed to the dealership. I requested that the dealership examine all 4 doors as I was afraid this might recur. On 4/14/19 the same problem happened, only this time it was the left rear passenger seat. The door popped open while driving and would not shut. I took the car straight to the dealership the next morning. I am afraid to drive this car. I was told this could be a child safety lock issue, yet I do not use this feature, as I do not have small children. I have requested that all latches on all doors be replaced. This is a very dangerous situation. I also have had transmission issues (stalling) which dealer states is resolved, and an issue with the gas tank that I was told was a recall then not" what is it? is the gas tank a recall or not? id my car defective & safe to drive"

Focus

At unpredictable times, accelerator pressure results only in engine revving. This occurs regardless of current speed, when turning at any speed or when moving forward. The transmission will not engage for several seconds. When it does finally engage, it will do so in a burst of acceleration. These conditions create problems in which routine traffic maneuvers become unsafe.

I was pulling into a parking spot at approximately 3-5 mph and the car surged forward jumping the curb and hitting a tree. Prior to approaching the parking spot a speed bump was negotiated so the stated mph are accurate as the speed bump was 25 feet prior to the parking spot entry.

The vehicle shakes and loses power at take off. It does not happen every time. The car was taken to Ford and we were told that it is a "normal feature". this car was purchased for our teenager and, 2 days after purchase, we are not comfortable with her driving it. She pulls into traffic and the car shakes and does not accelerate appropriately. Very unsafe and needs addressed.

Transmission clutch slips, car stutters on accelerations, clunky sound. (google it) well known problem with these cars, Ford is aware, but been to dealers twice, they won't fix, because Ford won't pay! dangerous if car stutters & you need to go!

There is a shudder and loss of power when accelerating from a stop in the 2017 Ford Focus S with manual transmission. There is excessive jerkiness when attempting to accelerate from a stop and at low speeds, from around 0-25 miles per hour. This is a safety issue and an apparent plaguing issue in the Ford Focus from at least the 2015 model. There have been numerous times when I have nearly been caught in traffic making a left hand turn because of unresponsiveness to the power going to the wheels; there have been even more frustrated drivers behind me when trying to get going from a stop. Additionally, the car seems to want to stall after cold start after work and driving about 2000 feet to the traffic light (so this would be the second time the vehicle was started, about 6-9 hours from first cold start of the day). I've had to press on the accelerator while the car was in neutral on multiple occasions to keep the car idling. It has the same shuddering feeling, without the jerkiness of the transmission, while waiting at the traffic light. The issue of the feeling of wanting to stall goes away with about 5 minutes of driving. The jerkiness and shuddering of the transmission is constant. Passengers are quick to get motion sickness when riding in the vehicle.

I am having issues as stated by others with my car hesitating. I go to put my foot on the gas and the car will hesitate start shaking as it shifts from first to second gear. Sometimes the car will even feel like it is stalling out. I have taken it to the dealer at least two or three times and each time they tell me that is how the transmission is supposed to be. I do not believe that. When I looked these problems up the previous year models had the same things happening to them. I want this resolved but they keep pushing it off. I have children who I Transport in this car and I feel the vehicle is unsafe! it has been happening since it had only 3,000 miles and I only have 16,000 miles on it currently. Its an ongoing problem that they will not fix!

Shuddering while accelerating from first to second gear in automatic transmission. At first this only happened on occasion (approximately 6,600 miles) and I thought it was because I was running the A/C in the car. It progressively got worse to where it was occurring constantly. I took it into a Ford dealer and they "reprogrammed" the tcm. That lasted about 3 weeks and it still continues to this day. This morning while driving to work on the freeway at 70 mph, the transmission acted like it was in neutral, I lost all acceleration and the RPM's went up to 7000. I verified that the car was in drive and that it wasn't knocked out of gear. I called Ford service again and I am taking the car into service this afternoon. They stated that the tcm needs to be reprogrammed again. These are the same issues that the previous Focus owners reported in 2016 cars and older. My car has less than 18,000 miles on it.

Transmission shutters and jerks when accelerating from a stop occasionally. It is the same issue that I had in the 2013 Focus we owned before this one that was recalled and replaced 3 times by 100K miles. I believe this is the same issue all together and upon investigation have no doubt that this will become a recall issue as well. It is very disturbing trying to accelerate from a stop at an intersection or a parking lot and wonder if your car is going to actually accelerate, blow the transmission, or if you are just going to shutter and be part of an accident because of it. This issue needs to be addressed.

Car has about 13,000 miles. Suddenly lost power while stopped at a traffic light. 'stop safely now' warning showed on dashboard. Tried for 10-15 minutes to restart, finally restarted and completed commute to work. Drove the car to the dealer same day. After one week, dealer has no diagnosis and has made no repair. I cannot drive an unsafe car on my daily commute, which includes highway driving. Ford is obviously on notice that this is a serious safety problem and they haven't fixed it.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford Focus. While operating the vehicle, the transmission shuddered when accelerating from a stop and the transmission would not shift properly occasionally. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer (greenway Ford, 9001 E. colonial dr, orlando, fl) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 17,000.

When powertrain is warm and vehicle is accelerating from a stop, there is a loud grinding sound, vehicle shuddering and vibration, and resulting engine hesitation as the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gear. Occasionally at highway speeds (55-65 mph) there is a noticeable vibration and shuddering as the vehicle moves into and out of overdrive gears. I have taken the car to the dealership that sold it to me twice with concern about this problem and the service tech says they are waiting for Ford to recall the faulty components, and that this is a common complaint.
