Started getting delayed 1-2 shift then harsh when 2nd hits. Started doing this only when trans was warmed up, now does it most of the time. Took it to trans shop. They kept it for days but could not reproduce the problem. I was able to get it on video. Trans shop rebuilt the valve body, Problem got worse. Now everything is OK as long as I don't let the RPM's get above 3000. If I let the RPM's get above 3000 the A/C quits and the dash goes black during the up-shift and the power doors stop working with the key fobs or the overhead console. The lift gate will only open manually. After a little while the power comes back to the lift gate. The key fobs will not reprogram. I read about water in the PCM so I got a new PCM and followed the instructions in the TSB.to ensure there was no water intrusion. The new PCM did not fix the problem. After about 30 tries or so I got the key fobs to reprogram. The first time I let the RPM's get over 3000 during the 1-2 up shift the dash went black for a couple of seconds and the key fobs and overhead console quit working with no power to the lift gate. After a couple of hours power returned to the lift gate. Why is the 1-2 up shift over 3k causing all of these electrical problems? Tried 40 or so times to reprogram the fobs with no luck so far.

Update from Oct 30, 2016: I took it to the dealer and asked them to use the Ford factory scanner on it. It came back with overcharging alternator. The Freestar has built in protection against an overcharging alternator. Mine would start overcharging at 300 RPM or so. It would trip the breakers and kill power to the the CPU and GEM. I'd never heard of such a thing so to test it I disconnected the alternator and took it for a test drive. All problems solved. Went out the next day and got a new alternator. Installed it and haven't had a problem since.

The first time I took it back they said it was not the transmission. It was still under warranty but will be up soon. They said it was Hub assembly which he charged me $233.52. Now still doing the same thing

I purchase this vehicle November 2013, and it started making noise, took it in and they stated it was the transmission. I check online and found it had a recall on the torque converter, check and found out it was replaced in 2012 so it should not be broken now. I use this vehicle for work and to take my sister back and forth to the doctor for Liver disease, I also use it for my food ministry, have not been able to do that without the car. Using someone else's vehicle to get to work. They will not fix it.

Update from Sep 17, 2014: Still without a car, don't know what to do can not afford another at this time

I was driving down the highway and about got smashed. The car was not switching up from one gear to the next to pick up speed. In the mail, I got a recall for ALL the '05 Freestars. The transmission torque converters were not manufactured correctly. Once fixed, it caused a leak about the seal of the transmission dipstick tube.

I and my wife purchased the 2005 ford free star van in 2008 and thought we had the deal in the world from well known car dealer who may been aware of transmission problem at the time .So while it was under warranty I had problems with the EGR valve in that day my wife was coming from work it stop on her and would not start so she call to have it towed to a shop near our home who accepted warranty with no problem. So that was fixed , now here comes the fun 3 months after that it had to go back in the shop for the transmission to the solenoid replaced because it was not changing gears correctly but this time never heard about a recall of any sort about the transmission , so that was repaired and ran just fine for a while now. remember it's still warranty . That was repaired and mad sure to keep it serviced in this area making sure no leaks or any other problems. So now after I pay the van off in 2011 it was running fine . now in the summer of 2012 I receive a letter about a recall about the transmission torque convertor that needs to be replaced but the time it was running fine , so about 4 months into 2013 it started to give problems. Now here the jerking and high rpms when the trying to get to gear with no warning light at the time. So now it goes in for basic transmission service now after that here comes the a week later and more jerking. I call a ford dealership have brought in for the recall . Now question was are you going to test it while the light is on and told me no I would have to pay 120.00 for that they are only going to replace that part at no charge to me. that was strange to why would you take something apart first without testing it. The van stayed in the shop for 2 weeks And call to check on it but hearing they had not received the convertor yet , Now 2 days later I called they said I could come and pick it up.Fine I get it back and after a few days it began to do the same thing I was not happy at all now what shall I do.

you kind of expect your car to run further than 297 miles before it starts jerking and feeling like it is going to shut down at any minute. on flat road i had to slow down from 55 if i even reached that, i crawled back to 50 and it started jerking again. when my car was first taken to dealership for speed sensors, which were fixed, they replaced the torque converter also for the recall. this time car is towed back to same dealership and they state runner clips are broken and need replaced. my car might be 2005, have never missed an oil change. this is the first time anything has been wrong and now i'm afraid to drive it. is this all connected to the torque converter recall? it's too much of a coincidence for the speed sensors and clips for whatever to go all of a sudden.
