problem #1

Dec 012014

Freestar V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 140,000 miles

I bought a used 2005 Freestar and have had problems. The one I can't seem to get repaired is the driver's side window that will only work intermittently. I'd let it down and it may or may not go back. This happens over and over beginning in Dec/2014 and it is not working correctly even now. At first it would stop working then start working like it should in a matter of minutes.. Then it would take longer to start working so first I had a new switch put in the door. Still the same problem so I took it to the Ford dealer in Brewton, Al and paid for a diagnoses and was told the problem would be solved with a new gem module. But I had the same problem two weeks later and 800.00+ dollars poorer. The dr's side window would not go up but would go down further. I was told to bring the van in when the window wasn't working so it could be connected to the dealer computer and find the problem. The passenger's window has always worked correctly while trying to repair driver's window.

Feb/2016 for 4 days the window was part way down, would not go up but would go further down so I had to tape the window up to make a 425mi trip back to Ala. I took the van to the Ford dealer the Monday I returned but they couldn't have it put on the computer that day unless I left the van there. I was given a Wednesday appt. but the window started working on Tuesday afternoon. I had to make a trip back to Fla so I had a new regulator & motor installed before I left Ala thinking that must have been the problem all along.

Well I was wrong, the window worked great until 1wk later when I had the window almost all the way down. It would not go back up for 3 days then started working like nothing was ever wrong. It again would go further down but not up.... (Sometimes I heard an odd noise out of the dashboard when it would or would not work. I told the Ala Ford dealer all the details, even used a hair dryer one time to heat the door to see if it would work and it did for a while.)

I was ready to pull out of the garage & take it to the Ford dealer in Dade City, Fl to check it out, to hook it to their computer but it started working as I was leaving for the dealership..

Now I have a piece of Gorilla tape keeping me from using the window in case it refuses to go up because I cannot go anywhere with the window down. I'm unable to go into a store or on a trip because I would be robbed or worse.

As I've stated above I've had this problem since Dec/2014 and I can't keep spending money on a lost cause. I will never buy another Ford product. p.s there are other expensive problems with the van I won't go into now..

Just yesterday I found info on the internet that the 2005 Freestar has had more problems than any other Freestar built... Just shoot me now.... Regards, syc
