Freestar LX 3.2L

Started missing 5/2/2016 when it was raining. Engine light came on. Took it to O'Reily's for computer scan. Said 3rd cyl missing. Started back up, ran fine, light went off. Next day started car in drive way, it was missing and backfiring bad and still is.

Freestar SEL 4.2L. V6

Ask a mechanic to check and was told I need a new battery. But the problem is still happening. I can't go to the dealer because I don't want to spend more for all kinds of engine analysis.
