Had engine dash panel problems in spring 2010 and again in winter and spring of 2011. Panel had to be removed and replaced with a rebuilt. Rebuilt mileage reset was wrong and panel had to be replaced again. Problem was weird gauge readings including, in particular, tachometer wildly high with rpms at stop reading 4000 to 5000 and on high speed driving, going above 7000.
Concurrently had to have radio/CD player removed and replaced with rebuilt.
Car is drivable but wildly varying tachometer is annoying.

This is the THIRD time the effing cluster has gone bad. The first one was covered by warranty, second one wasn't, this one went bad 42 days past warranty expiration. The dealership repair shop offered free labor, but won't cover the part ($488). Called Ford customer care and they definitely do not care. Ford has dumped me back to the dealer for resolution, so we shall see what they say. I'm not too hopeful. What astounds me is the number of failures on this part, how long the part has been a problem, and the number of different vehicles and companies involved. Why hasn't this been addressed as a safety issue and a recall issued, along with a redesign of the replacement part. Oh, that's right. The bean counters won't let them. Greed wins again.

Intermittent Loss of Instrument Functionality (all gauges). Dealer indicates that Service Bulletin Issued as Known Issue/Failure but NO Recall... Instrument Cluster Needs to be replaced.
I find it aggravating... I can understand that Ford made Engineering Errors in the design but Ford could at least replace/correct the error for the cost of the part and NOT add the labor cost. Is it a little ridiculous that Dealer Service Departments are making parts and labor profit off of an obvious and significant Ford Design and Reliability Error?

This is the 2nd time the speedometer, odometer and gas gauge all the sudden stopped working, would jerk, the needle pivot up and down. The first time it was the battery. I had the battery checked and needed to be changed yesterday. The gauges still did not correct. the gas miles did not light for awhile. The drive sounds like the muffler is hanging loose, but it is not, nothing could be found.
Please help.

Why has this not been deemed a safety issue?! Ford tells me this is a known issue and is not going to fix it because my vehicle is out of warranty.

MY CLUSTER IN MY 2005 FORD FREESTYLE STOP WORKING. ALL LIGHTS ARE ON. THE ONLY GAUGE THAT WORKS IS THE FUEL GAUGE. THEY NEED TO DO SOMETHING OR I WILL.
